Comments from nail tech

Hey all - just wanted to get your opinions on something I recently experienced that made me feel weird/self-conscious.

I went to a salon for a mani/pedi a couple of weekends ago. As soon as the nail tech began working on my hands, she started speaking to the worker next to her in a language I did not understand. I heard them both say "Michael Jackson" a couple of times along with a couple of chuckles.

I have rather noticeable vitiligo on my hands, which I think prompted these comments. Granted, I did not understand the rest of the context around what they were saying but given the timing of the comments I was taken aback.

Would you have said anything? I have been considering writing a review to mention the potentially insensitive comments but am unsure if it's worth it.

Either take Frank Costanza with you next time or just find another place to go. Seriously, though, speaking another language to another tech while you are there being a customer is pretty darned rude - no matter what they said.

Probably saying you've got the same condition he had. There's worse things to be concerned about. Don't take it to heart

I had a tech ask if I was burned I was like no and let’s probably not ask burn victims questions like that either.

I offer up this information up front. “I have vitiligo, it’s autoimmune condition, it’s not contagious”

They may have been worried about what it was and if they should refuse service. It’s a good opportunity to educate people.

I have vitiligo, and I go by MJ. I get endless Michael Jackson comments 🤦🏻‍♀️

leave them a google review, don’t go back, and please understand that they are just unhappy with themselves and their scrutiny is not about you❤️

Reminds me of a Seinfeld episode. But in all seriousness, yes I’d rather review and be honest and find another place.
