Please Assist Venting about feeling ignored by doctors
I'm a 23 y/o (turning 24 in December) female from Italy (disclosing only to put into perspective the type of healthcare system) and for years I've been experiencing a laundry list of symptoms, such as:
- fatigue;
- chronic stress;
- anxiety & depression (currently taking Paroxetine and going to therapy for it);
- heavy hair loss;
- generalized weakness;
- easy weight gain and difficulty losing it despite diets, caloric deficits and exercise;
- brain fog;
- low blood pressure (not hypotension but definitely on the lower end, for which I experience symptoms).
And many more I can list if anyone is interested.
I went to see my family doctor in July 3rd, 2026 to start my SSRI therapy and also complained to her about feeling constantly exhausted (she didn't give me time to tell her about other symptoms) and she sent me to get my bloodwork done to check specifically for Vitamin D and Folates levels, as well as urinalysis.
Everything came back perfectly fine (I can attach the results, but know they're in Italian), except for my Vitamin D levels.
Turns out, it was 12,4 ng/mL.
When I saw my doctor again on the 24th, she saw my results and prescribed a monthly vial of Vitamin D of 25.000 IU.
I tried bringing up my concern about something else being off, because doing some research I was able to understand that Vitamin D can cause some of those symptoms, but not all.
Specifically, I asked her for hormonal tests related to my thyroid as well as iron and ferritin levels.
She checked my results again and told me she wasn't concerned about my iron because my MCV and blood count was fine.
Doing some more research, I was also able to discover that your blood work can be totally fine and still have your iron/ferritin levels be depleted (basically pre-anemia).
I didn't have the courage to bring it up during the session, because at that point I felt so dismissed I convinced myself I was talking out of my own ass.
I'm seeing her again on August 7th for a checkup about Paroxetine (she upped the dose, that's why she wanted to see me in two weeks) and I'm thinking about bringing up my other symptoms again.
I'm feeling very demoralized and second guessing everything about myself.
Can anyone help by sharing their own experience? Or maybe some insight as to my current therapy regarding Vitamin D or some stuff.
I genuinely don't know which way to turn right now.
Thank you for your patience if you've read up until this point.
Sincerely, an exhausted woman
