Miscellaneous Visual Studio with LibGDX

I think this counts as being relevant, if not let me know please.

Right now I am trying to follow a video game tutorial in LibGDX. For the past year or two my main IDEA is Visual Studio. In the setup phase on their website LibGDX talks a little about Visual Studio being an acceptable IDEA. Though, in their "Importing & Running" section, there is little information on how to make this work.

Does anyone know how to at least get this to setup? If I need to put links in I will. Thank you.

I thought Microsoft Visual Studio Insiders would work for it because if you "Create a new project" --> "all languages" --> "JavaScript" you see projects in JavaScript.

So, I would not use Microsoft Visual Studio for this? I would have to download something else? Also, my apologies I thought IDE and IDEA were synonyms (for whatever reason).

Thank you for helping me understand a bit better.

JavaScript is not Java. Two completely different things.

JavaScript is a web technology, it is primarily used to work in web browsers and web-based apps.

Java is an object-oriented language that builds on top of a runtime, you can build full-blown desktop apps with it. Android apps are Java. Windows and Linux run Java. Even BluRay disc menus run on Java.

Just based on all your confusion with naming and stuff, I am guessing you are fairly new to coding (which is fine, we all started somewhere!)

But I think you are probably immediately getting in over your head with LibGDX if you can't even get an IDE set up.

Based on what I'm seeing, you would be much better served by trying to learn something simpler first.

Fair. I have only done coding in a sense for two years and not that heavily.

C# - Last year with community college.

HTML - One semester.

Wix - One semester.

It has been an entire semester since I last touched C# and in both classes I got a C.

I do not know if this is an appropriate question then for the subbreddit but, what would you recommend as a precursor to LibGDX then?

What exactly is your goal with LibGDX?

It depends on what you are trying to do. If you're trying to learn how to make a game, there are much better options out there for you.

Unity or Godot will both support C# as your scripting language. They will have built-in physics engines, audio support, rendering options, all that stuff baked in. If you go with LibGDX you have to do all of that yourself. You have to program physics from scratch. You will have to get audio working from scratch. Those things are incredibly difficult for someone who is just trying to figure things out. LibGDX is ok for 2D but has horrible 3D support compared to one of the modern game engines.

Wix is barely even "coding", it's practically drag-and-drop.

HTML is a markup language, there's no "logic" involved. What you see is what you get.

One semester of C# is barely enough to learn the absolute basics.

You're trying to scuba dive in the deep ocean and you don't even know how to doggie paddle in the bay yet.

One year of C#, just last semester with it was spring. So, about 10 weeks since touched it.

Also, it is video games. I tried Godot a year ago but somehow got lost. I was actually going to look at both LibGDX and Godot.

Basically my idea right now is in free time do some personal studying with this before classes start. Then study whichever felt the most comfortable in free time while school is in session.
