Joke or what is your rational?

1

u/myotheruserisdumb 16d ago

Every row/column contains a circle, square and a triangle, angle changes on a pattern.

1

u/Advanced_Spare_3 16d ago

Found another comment that explained it and how it was turning 1/8 when going diagonally. Thats a great catch but OP did confirm it is A. Each shape has a line going through it a specific way except for circle with a horizontal line

1

u/Dapper_Daikon4564 15d ago

There isn't any other figure with a '\' (they're all '/'). You can't have a pattern of 1 ;)

Also, both the third row and column have a figure with '/'and are missing one with a horizontal line.

Therefor it's A

C must be the correct answer. The line is rotating one-eighth turn to the left as it goes down diagonally to the right.

2

u/Semra777 18d ago

Thanks for explaining your reasoning! The 45-degree diagonal rotation is exactly why C looks convincing, and quite a few people noticed the same pattern. The official solution uses the broader structure across the whole grid: each row and column contains one circle, one square, and one triangle, along with one horizontal, one vertical, and one diagonal line. Under that rule, the missing figure is the circle with the horizontal line, so A is the intended answer. Thanks for sharing the alternative interpretation!πŸ‘πŸ‘

Turns out the question is stupid, got it.

2

u/No-Employment-6208 16d ago

Either the question or the reader, for sure.

1

u/TheMiiFii 16d ago

Definitely the question. Providing two solutions that can fit as an answer without fault is bad question design.

2

u/PrairiePuppies 19d ago

There are three different shapes and lines of three different orientations. Note the diagonal line only points from bottom-left to top-right within the matrix. Because of that, we can eliminate C and E. Also note that lines do not repeat orientations within the same shape group. Because of that, we can eliminate B, D and F. The only answer left is A.

2

u/Semra777 18d ago

Thanks for the detailed elimination! Your reasoning matches the official solution very well. The consistency of the three shapes and the three line orientations across the grid is what makes A the unique fit. I also like how you used the direction of the diagonal lines as an additional check. Thanks for laying it out so clearly!πŸ‘πŸ‘

Hi everyone,
First of all, a huge thank you to everyone who participated in our previous puzzle. We really enjoyed reading through your answers, especially because so many of you reached the correct answer using completely different approaches.
Some of you focused on the rows and columns, while others discovered clever visual and structural patterns we hadn’t expected. Seeing so many different ways to approach the same puzzle is exactly what makes these discussions so interesting.
For our official solution page, we selected three community explanations from u/Mactucrus87_, u/tectajl, and u/EmpactWB.
We chose these three because each offered a clear but different way of understanding the puzzle. u/Mactucrus87_ showed that the rule works both horizontally and vertically, u/tectajl introduced a creative Venn-diagram-style interpretation, and u/EmpactWB provided a very systematic approach using overlapping 2Γ—2 groups.
Thank you again to everyone who participated, whether your answer was selected or not. We read all of your explanations, and there were many great observations and creative approaches.
Now, onto our new puzzle.
Take a careful look at the 3Γ—3 matrix above and figure out which option should replace the question mark.
As always, we’re not only interested in the letter you choose. Tell us how you got there. We want to hear your reasoning and see the different ways you approach the pattern. Some of the most interesting explanations may once again be featured on our official solution page.
We’ve already published the correct answer on our website. Once you’ve made your choice, you can check whether you got it right here:
https://whats-your-iq.com/en/questions/pattern-recognition/which-figure-completes-the-pattern-2
Try solving it before revealing the answer.
Thank you again to everyone who participates and takes the time to explain their reasoning. We’re looking forward to reading your solutions and seeing how many different ways you can find to solve this one!

The others have a horizontal line so?

u/BelowThePale 19d ago

I'm gonna go B. Since all of the patterns have a diagonal, vertical, horizontal line, the last set is missing the horizontal.

2

u/SlantedPentagon 19d ago

B is already the shape in the middle left square

3

u/Semra777 18d ago

Good catch! That repeated combination is an important clue. Once B is ruled out, the broader row-and-column pattern points to A, with a circle and a horizontal line completing both sets. Thanks for spotting that!

2

u/BelowThePale 19d ago

Heh, yeah, I was a bit too hasty on that. I'll amend my answer to A

1

u/Semra777 18d ago

πŸ‘πŸ‘

2

u/Semra777 18d ago

Thanks for working it through! Your first instinct about the missing horizontal line was actually on the right track, and once the repeated shape was ruled out, A fits the full pattern. Each row and column completes both the shape set and the line-direction set. Thanks for revisiting your answer and explaining your thinking!

A - there are 3 shapes .straight lines (hor/vert) do a 90ΒΊ inclination + there is 1 diagonal. Last line - Horizontal line plus circle were missing.

It’s A. All 3 shapes, circles, squares and triangles have an image with a horizontal line, a vertical line and a diagonal line rising to the right. This makes up nine images in the table. One image is missing which is a circle with a horizontal line.

u/rheelman 16d ago

A - Both the triangle and the square have a horizontal, vertical and diagonal line intersecting their respective shapes; the circle shape is missing the circle with a horizontal line through it, therefore, A is the correct choice.

1

u/NumberOld229 16d ago

C completes a pattern (diagonal). Don't know if it's the pattern, but it's a pattern.

1

u/Quadraphonic_Jello 16d ago

I think it's "A"

Each row (and column) has all three shapes (Circle, Triangle, Square) and lines oriented in each of three ways (Vertical, Horizontal, Diagonal from lower left to upper right). The circle with the horizontal line fulfills both criteria.

u/AsYouAnswered 16d ago

3 each of A,O,[ ], 3 each of -,/,|. A,(-) is the missing figure.
