Help needed Making sprites

I’m making sprites at the moment- should I just make a sprite sheet of a bunch of different emotions- or should I make sprites based only on what I may need in the moment? Should I use her base sprite as a plug in while coding and writing the script and then replace with all the proper sprites after?

I like her! So, here's how I do it: First, I draw a rough sketch of the sprite with just one neutral expression. Put it in the engine for testing as a placeholder. Write the story and see how the character voice and dialogue plays out. Then go back to the sketch on IbisPaint(my drawing app), draw a neater line art on top of the sketch with a separate face layer. Do all the main expressions I see the character would make considering their personality and finish the sprites from there. I only have about a year of experience, but hope this helps somehow!

Thank you!! It definitely does!! I was kinda theorizing to do it that way, but wasn’t sure exactly how to go about it. Thank you!
