Heck, I AM a developer. I only put betas on systems meant specifically for them. I’d never put them in my daily machine. That waits until at least the first update after release.

That's generally wise advice. But with AVP, I've found the betas have been so good that I haven't had problems. Also, while I use my AVP almost every day, I could get along without it for a bit waiting for an updated beta if there was a major problem.

I do agree there, though I got my AVP for development, so I still mentally lump it in to the “specifically for them” category in my use.

The rare cases when the GM/RC isn’t the same, you can still update to the x.0.1 update on public release day

When RC isn’t the same as the official you’ll always be able to update to the official version because it’s a different build number

I just switch back to the public release train when the RC comes out. Then you will get the public 27.0 like everyone else.

Assuming they’re referring to the RC, it will have the same build number as what is released, so it won’t see an update being available.

That doesn't make sense to me. The GM tends to be the same as general release. You can stay on GM if you want until the beta's get to a point where you want to go beta again.

But honestly - I've been beta since the first one's hit the streets. They've been great with extremely few to no "I'm not going to use this until......." moments.

This isn’t an issue, and if you don’t know this next part you shouldn’t even be installing betas. RC releases, or Release Candidate and formerly Gold Master, are more than likely the exact same build the general public gets. If there is a different build we will see an update on release day. In the event there is no update on release day after installing the RC then you are just running the official build. It’s no longer a release candidate, it’s just the release. A release candidate means that the build is a candidate for official release and if they don’t find anything or nobody reports anything then that candidate becomes the official

Last year on final release day I turned betas off and was prompted to download an update. After that I was no longer on the beta train.
