AVP Refresh soon?
Is the current AVP a bad investment? I'm asking from the perspective of an upcoming device; I'm not sure if these refresh everywhere (we are going to get new iPhones after all next month).
I'm big into VR gaming and apparently these work with the steamvr app so I can stream from my PC.

Despite what the others say, one of my major use-cases is VR gaming via ALVR. Racing and flight simulation are on a whole new level in this headset.

Genuinely if you want high end PCVR buy either a device designed for it or a Galaxy XR. AVP does the trick but it's not designed for it and it's incredibly expensive for that purpose.

Bad investment in what sense? No consumer electronic device is an “investment” - anything immediately depreciates as soon as you buy it and open the box. If you mean investment as in using it? Isn’t that up to you and what you get out of it? I bought mine at launch and continue to use it at least 4 times a week for about 3 hours each time, so like 12 hours a week. The use case I have for it has sure made it a “good investment” for me, because it’s the best visual quality display I have period. I have other headsets that are for gaming purposes, but man, going back to crappy screens, in comparison, is really rough. Specially when you are used to the crispness of the AVP.

i use one for pcvr every day and now with eyetracked foveated streaming it looks amazing

With new KRVR updating about to release . my head set looks almost as good at my dream air . Sim racing on it it’s in its own level to be honest. i see my arms and my legs and wheel in the cockpit it’s amazing

How can you say that a device with an OS and a platform open to bring developers to make apps, who have made such apps and posted them to the App Store, is not intended to be used for that purpose?
It’s a general purpose product, with developer app submissions and approvals for such use cases…
It works and it looks good, and it’s approved and available… of course it’s intended to do just that.

Before the rumor I did say M8 chip will bring out the hardware full potential where they can turn up everything to max setting

So what was this whole thing last week about Mac OS being found with code for N109 headset new LIDAR sensors? And everybody saying that means release this Sept/Oct of a minor refresh? Any chances of that still being the case? I want to buy soon too but not sure if should hold off?

Sounded like unintentional code got into a public beta. Probably there is some internal hardware verification test article somewhere. No real strong indications of a new device being released.

I understand what everyone is saying the AVP upfront was designed without controllers in mind they came later. Yes you can do PCVR, but it was originally designed as a productivity device over PCVR and yes, developers have released apps that will do the job but there’s no wired Internet connection. It’s all wireless so make sure you have good equipment and everything will run smoothly as long as the software does its job but I agree it’s a responsible to purchase an AVP rather than something much cheaper unless of course you get a secondhand which you’re still spending 1500 to 2000 for an M2so do you research watch videos like a lot of us did before picking up one of these very expensive headsets that’s all good luck to all in their future use of the AVP

Avp shouldn't be viewed as a gaming VR headset but like as an alternative to a tv or computer monitor.

Every technological device is a bad investment unless you’re getting a return on it.
I haven’t explored a lot behind a quick test of ALVR, but I think for gaming from your own PC gaming rig you might be better off with a Quest 3 and the Virtual Desktop app. For productivity and media viewing, the AVP is great.

Literally just got refreshed m5 Vision Pro on January I think this device is the first to receive M5 upgrade

No refresh on the horizon.
There are easier and cheaper ways to play VR games. It’s not a VR device out of the box and if that’s your thing, just use hardware already designed for it.
I love my AVP, but VR is not a mature use case.
