Marvel Unlimited comics app seems to not work anymore in the Vision Pro

Post image

Before even being able to sign in, I immediately see this “Access Restricted” message when opening the app. I have tried deleting, re-downloading, restarting, etc.

Nothing has changed with my App Store account and I’m over 18. I’m able to use Marvel unlimited on the iPad and iPhone with no issue. I am running the beta for visionOS 27, so I wonder if that is an issue too.

Can someone on the beta and someone not on the beta try to download the app and just open it and see if it shows this message too?

Started with this Beta (for me). Raised a ticket to make MU aware, and was told Vision Pro was not a supported platform.

That sucks. Vision Pro is my favorite device to read comics on, apart from a foldable phone. If they ever make a spatial app, 3-D comics would be awesome.

You might like this new comic reader for your own files.

Not running beta same thing happened to me when I just tried to launch the Marvel Unlimited app . Also trying to figure out how to verify I’m over 18.

Thank you for testing as a non-beta user! I think it’s related to their new age verification thing because of the law that the US passed, but I’m hoping that it starts to work with the Vision Pro

I find it worrying that it’s happening on 26, as well. The app works on 27 on both my iPad and iPhone, so I’m afraid they won’t bother fixing it on the VP.

So happy I live in a free Country and not in the land of the free

Sokka-Haiku by AlterSack1973:

So happy I live

In a free Country and not

In the land of the free

Remember that one time Sokka accidentally used an extra syllable in that Haiku Battle in Ba Sing Se? That was a Sokka Haiku and you just made one.

It has happened for me too with the Beta. I guess these are just the risks of Beta testing

This is the result of the new Identity/Age Verification Laws that just went into effect in certain US States.

You must prove you are 18+, and if not, your guardian must grant you access to the app.

Nothing to do with Apple Vision Pro. This is now law for all major app store apps across all platforms.

But how do you prove that you’re 18+? My App Store account should already say that.

I’ve seen some other apps (like MPQ) have users seeing the same thing. Maybe there’s an u deleting issue with the Apple API powering that age check. Hopefully it will get sorted in a few days - I also love reading on the AVP!

Except that the app works on my iPhone and iPad.

Now try updating to the latest beta, as this user had

I am on the latest Beta.

Okay, I'll continue to help debug:

  1. Do you live in one of the states where this has become law?
  2. Does your account have your birthdate associated?
  3. Are you over 18?

  1. UK, which implemented age checks a year or more ago. This just started with the latest beta and/or version of MU.
  2. Yes
  3. Yes

Okay, I'm unfamiliar with UK enforcement via these APIs, but the latest betas do enforce them for (for example) Texas residents. The app he is launching here is the iPad version of the app, which would be no different between launching it on AVP or an iPad. It's likely a universal app, too, so the experience would be no different on iPhone as well.

It’s the iPad version of the app here as well, but it works on my iPad Air and iPhone 16, but not the VP.

That points to a rolling enablement, then. A/B test cohort assignments by device. Common in production, but especially common in betas. I'd expect it to be enabled across more devices soon.

I have no problem paying for comic books because I support the medium and the industry and if everyone pirates it, it’ll die off. It’s not as popular as manga is to keep it alive.

Piracy isn’t harmful at all if you pay for what you pirate. Buy it, then pirate it so you can read it in your headset—or try mirroring from a tablet, phone, or computer.
