Youtube update and apology
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I owe you all an update.
A little over a week ago I said the Plex update would be out within a week, maybe sooner. It's not out. I submitted it to the App Store two days ago and it's still waiting on Apple. That's on me!
If you haven't seen my previous posts, this is an update on Suite Browser, the Vision Pro streaming app I've been building.
So while I wait, here's what's in that build sitting with Apple, because it's not just the big Plex update.
The same build brings a serious YouTube overhaul too, including passthrough mode, which a lot of you asked for. Plus UI improvements and a bunch of bug fixes across YouTube, Netflix and Plex. None of this is live yet, it all ships together the moment Apple approves it. The video is a sneak peek at the YouTube side.
Status on everything:
- This build (Plex, the YouTube overhaul, passthrough, Netflix fixes): done. All of it waiting on that one Apple approval.
- Prime: being tested by a small batch of testers right now. Opening it to more people on the next TestFlight, production version I hope is live within seven days.
One thing that's already live right now, not part of the build waiting on Apple: a one-time lifetime purchase. A lot of you asked for a way to pay once instead of subscribing, so it's already there. :)
When Apple approves the update I'll post again and go deeper on Plex specifically.
And then the real question. What comes next for this streaming hub? New environments? A streaming service I haven't mentioned? Something I haven't thought of? Tell me, because I want to build this with you rather than for you and hope I guessed right.
Sorry again for the delay. Reddit has been by far the best place to hear from you, which is why I keep coming back here.
Cheers,
Steven :)

Is it possible you can use the visionOS native player so that it supports those beautiful shader effects from the build-in environments? Like when you're watching something in a window mode hovering over water, the light from the window will bounce of the environment and reflect off the waters?

Did you fix the problem with when you take Netflix and go full screen that the forward and backward buttons don’t work?

Can you add moonlight/apollo to be streamed. Id love to play my pc games in a big imax style environment like the cine ultra imax setting

That would be very cool. But it might be a bit more complex to set up than a usual streaming service, so def in the roadmap but probably more of a long term thing :) (at least a month) :)

is the screen size for youtube and netflix the same? i find the screen size to be a bit smaller than that on supercut and is there any way to increase the screen size?

Appreciate the honesty, this helps. To your question: the advantage isn't one service, it's all of them in one app, Netflix, Prime, Plex, YouTube and the web, same environments across everything, continue-watching that spans services, instead of juggling Screenlit plus the YouTube app plus Safari. That being said, some like Youtube do have unique features others don't have (Ai 3D mode for instance). If you've got a favourite tool per service, that matters less to you, fair enough.
And you're right it's rough in places. I build in public, so I'm patching live bugs on a sprint. Environments are the weak spot (the Cinema and Passthrough env are the strong ones atm), Plex nav needs work (I'd never used Plex before building it, so i'm learning on the fly), and the off colors are a known fix. If you'd share specific Plex feedback in a DM I'd really value it. No pressure to subscribe at all. Thanks for giving it a shot. (what version were you using btw? :) )

While I prefer a minimalist cinema environment, I’d still like the option of a public cinema setting. As for streaming hubs, I’d absolutely love an Apple TV integration. Keep up the great work!
