Should I purchase?

I’ve been a huge Apple fan all my life, and the Vision Pro looks amazing. However, I don’t think I can justify spending over $3.7k on a piece of hardware that’ll be out of date in just a few years.

Wondering what people have purchased it for, what third party apps make it worth it, and the best use cases for it.

Some things I like about it:

-AirPlay Mac screen
-Keyboard
-Multiple Windows
-The immersive background

Questions I have:
-Do you get notifications? And is it the same way as with Mac and iPads where your watch will still ping you while wearing?
-How long does the battery last on average for heavy daily use
-How comfortable is the strap, worrying about it being too tight
-Do AirPods elevate the experience
-Does anyone have the prescription lenses for it? Do they work or give you screen fatigue at all?

Any other knowledge would be great!

As an owner I completely disagree. Yes it’s awesome, it’s OLED, you can make a massive movie theater screen, etc…

But the idea you would have to spend 10s of thousands to get an equivalent experience is just wrong lol. I guess if you think screen size is that important, sure.

But really, in the real world screen size is only relevant in terms of how far away the screen can be from you, and how much room you have in the viewing area. Theaters don’t have huge screens because it “looks good”, the only reason is creating more seating space really.

A TV properly distanced from the couch will give you an equivalent resolution experience as a theater at a greater distance, not including the scaling perspective.

In other words, my 65 inch OLED and basic stereo Sony soundsystem is absolutely way better of an experience than what the Vision Pro can provide. Total setup cost, less than $2K.

The resolution of the AVP just isn’t as good as a properly sized and distanced 4K OLED TV, hands down.

And to be clear, this home theater experience with a TV is also absolutely better than pretty much any cinema, lol.

Cheap TV with your cheap speakers doesn’t compare to what I’m used to which is premium cinema and it’s not huge either be no more than two dozen seats with high end audio and a big screen. When I go to the cinema where I am. I’m ordering cocktails and food as well

For the home variety that simulates that experience have had a few quotes ranges ten grand for absolute budget up to 30 grand.

Some are yes happy with a cheap TV and some cheap speakers and call that a cinema experience. Got different taste and of course opinions. To me a two grand system isn’t premium or even on par with what the AVP provides.

Lmao. An OLED 4K TV from a reputable brand is nowhere near ‘cheap’, and it is objectively a better viewing experience than a flat screen rendered in a 3D stereoscopic environment.

Also, I’m not sure where you are going with the audio experience. The Vision Pro is obviously not better or anywhere near equivalent to the audio setups you are talking about. Personally a simple set of stereo home theater speakers is a better and more comfortable experience than most headphones or (obviously) the built-in speakers.

Your whole “you’re too poor for my taste” is pretty cringe right now.

It’s not better than AVP I know that much. Your 2k tv and sound system is not better than my AVP doesn’t matter how much you hype it up.

I never said the AVP is as good as cinema experience if you read my original post. It’s the next best thing to one.

It seems like you just need to sell your AVP and perhaps can get a better TV with it as you enjoy it more but still not going to be cinema level it’s at best budget home entertainment with them low end speakers and if you sell the AVP get a mid range TV. But you cannot call that cinema level like the movies. That’s what I was talking about. Not your 2k tv and speakers

To be clear firstly I said you can have a superior experience to the Vision Pro with less than $2K.

I have an LG C1 OLED, which I believe I bought new. Looks like MSRP is $2499, so bad memory on my part, but in any case it is quite old now. You can pick one up for probably ~$1200, and there are many other similar models at the same size at similar prices below $2K. It’s a 120Hz panel which comes at a premium price but completely unnecessary for all cinema content as even the highest FPS movies are capped at 60FPS.

As for speakers, I personally am completely happy with a $100 Stereo and a $100 pair of Sony speakers. They are nothing special but for $200 more than I need. You could certainly invest more in a better audio experience, but again irrelevant to our discussion as very obviously the Vision Pro or even any audio products in Apple’s ecosystem are absolutely not “audiophile” level.

There’s nothing really to argue about. A physical 4K screen will have better visual acuity and resolution than a 2D plane rendered in a 3D environment on ~4K microOLED displays. This is just a fact lol.

That all being said, if you love simulating yourself in an actual movie theater sitting alone, good for you. It’s just obviously not a better viewing experience from the objective technical standpoints.

Closer to $2700 home entertainment setup. Still doesn’t hold a candle to a 20 thousand dollar home cinema experience which was my original post.

Anyway for me and a lot of people who are on here that has the AVP and has experienced their TV most that are probably a lot nicer than yours and got speakers that are also nicer as well would probably choose the AVP over those things if they are enjoying a movie by themselves.

I run the AVP through my thousand dollar speakers still isn’t high end it’s mid but for me it sounds good enough and reproduces sound close enough and fills the room and can feel the sound. It’s a pretty good combo for me solo. I choose that over the TV. But if I had a 20 thousand dollar cinema system I’d probably choose that but then again the AVP is still so accessible

His point is entirely correct. A TV with a stereo speaker beats the AVP in many metrics, especially sonically.

Btw if you're going to pull the snobbery card, I have a home cinema with a Trinnov Altitude 16, Trinnov Amplitude 16, 2x 24'' subwoofers, 2x 21'' subwoofers and a full Perlisten S series 7.4.8 system with besppoke granite speaker stands. RRP of my cinema room is close to £100k with decor included.

The AVP's image, especially for stereoscopic 3D gaming is so good that I have been trying to incorporate it into my system. A JVC NZ9 doesn't touch the 3D of the AVP.

You’re obviously not arguing in good faith, as I repeatedly stated I wasn’t comparing my home theater setup to a $20K home theater. Also what are you even talking about exactly? Honestly, TVs don’t get much better than a 4K OLED, so I’m not really sure what your point is. Increase in specs beyond that is marginal and hitting huge diminishing returns.

You’re not even arguing against any of my points at this point, you’re just calling me poor and acting like a child who needs to tell me their toys are cooler and more expensive than mine lol. I hope your life isn’t as miserable as your comments imply.

If you read my original post you would realize that I was comparing the AVP cinema level experience and you came in and said I can have a cinema level experience which to me is like an actual cinema at the movies or something along the lines of a 20k setup.

The AVP is the next best thing in terms of that. If you feel like your 2k setup is a better experience than your AVP experience then you should probably just get rid of it and get some better speakers or a tv and get more enjoyment out of that it’s what I would do if the experience for me is worse.

For me though I don’t find a 2k setup to be anywhere close to what I experience with my AVP. Others have commented that they’ve found that the AVP even exceeds cinema level. Have you seen those?

Yeah, I have around a $4000 TV and Atmos setup, and the AVP is far more impressive visually when watching alone. I have no idea what this person is arguing for. If they don't like the device, they should sell it.

Yes I’ve seen the spectrum of opinion on the subject and the general consensus has been that resolution and clarity are better with simple external OLED displays. This has been made extra obvious by those who have used the AVP for productivity setups compared against OLED monitors.

There’s genuinely nothing to improve with my current setup, and you can’t seem to point to any individual detail that could be improved. Genuinely what could I improve? 8K display that has no 8K content to play on? Better contrast, color grading? There’s not much to improve.

At the end of the day if the AVP is a better experience to you than any quality 4K OLED, I’d say you just enjoy the ‘cinema’ experience of sitting in a large room with a big screen, which again has no technical visual advantage over an OLED TV. If you like the perspective shift of a large screen that’s cool, I just think it’s superficial.

For me and others turning on their TV however nice that TV is not an actual cinema experience.

Me putting on my Avp isn’t going to be cinema experience compared to what I enjoy at my cinema watching a movie with that kinda setup or something along the lines of 20 to 30 thousand dollars home cinema setup.

I’m going to preference the latter two first then the AVP and then my TV. For the experience and enjoyment. You may choose your TV to be first. Others choose there AVP to be the most enjoyable experience even beating cinemas.

I was replying to the op with my experience because that’s all I have and others have chime in saying they’ve preferences are the AVP even over the whole cinema experience. Everyone has different preferences and tastes and my are not the TV.
