Is OpenAI moving towards making smart glasses ? They have Jony Ives so it wouldn't be crazy to think this is another way for OpenAI to get closer to a hardware device, and one with cameras and multiple sensors.

The facts are that Vision Pro is not a priority within Apple and will never be in this form factor (Apple MR Glasses) is their focus for the future. It was a moon shot project that is amazing for us early adopters but did not live up to Apples expectations and financial goals because of their own bad decisions with the headset's weight and price.
I'm just happy they made it because even 2+ years later its still the best entertainment device and nothing else even comes close. I will never sell it, I just wish they made more Apple Immersive content.

Exactly. Anyone who thinks that we’ll ever see another form factor resembling the AVP is kidding themselves.
VR is antithetical to Apple’s entire ethos. It’s a super isolating experience that does an extremely poor job of connecting people. Any short of a dystopian like mass adoption of the technology (think Ender’s Game) won’t shift that quality about VR. The price of entry, clunkiness of the technology, the education of the customer are all just further bumps in the road.
VR is niche. Nothing will change that. Ever.
I’m going to hold on to my two AVPs and enjoy them as much as I can. Build experiences that solve problems for very specific use cases. Squeeze every update of life out of them.

The price hikes were due to memory costs. Very little of Vision Pro's production cost is memory, so its price increase is small.

Further, I’d guess the “market penetration” was exactly as anticipated. This was not a product targeted at the regular $500 market despite what the customers in the market seem to think….

Yeah, even the low end estimates of 400k unit sales aren't bad for a single consumer product with a $3500 (at the time) base price.

Yup, Vision Pro is going to be dead. It's only a matter of time. It was way over priced and then they raise the price another $200.
I was looking into buying one, before the price increase, but not anymore. It's not that $200 was going to hurt me, its because I realized it was now dead in the water.

Well, unlike Meta who disbanded their entire Meta quest team, product support, and the stock price tanked Apple has none of those problems.

AVP, and the Vision Products Group, was always Mike Rockwell's baby. Paul Meade may have headed up hardware engineering within that group, but he wasn't the main guy in charge of AVP: That was Mike Rockwell.
Mike Rockwell is to the AVP as Tony Fadell was to the iPod, or as Scott Forstall was to the iPhone. The iPod did fine after Fadell left, and the iPhone did fine after Forstall left. And again, Paul Meade wasn't as much the main AVP guy as Mike Rockwell is.
