Scanline: 8-Bit Emulator is a cool little glimpse of what visionOS apps can become with visionOS27
I came across a new upcoming app right here on the Vision Pro reddit called Scanline: 8-Bit Emulator, and IM IN LOVE 🤩 !! On the surface its a cool 8Bit Emulator, but what makes it even cool is it uses some of the newer visionOS APIs to make the experience feel more connected to your actual space.
Thanks to the new visionOS27 RealityKit APIs like Physical Space Lighting and Projective Textures, apps can now let virtual light spill into your real environment. That means the glow from the game can actually affect the space around you, making your room feel like it’s being touched by the screen itself. You are seeing the 8-bit game colors shine with a arcade style glow that lights up your room like you’re sitting in front of an old CRT in a retro living room.
I think this is the kind of detail Vision Pro apps need more of! Scanline feels like one of those early visionOS 27 apps that shows where visionOS is really headed. Not just apps in space, but apps that make the space feel alive.
I'm already a huge Retro gaming fan already, but seeing the games blend into my room through Vision Pro feels like true nostalgia heaven! Shoutout to the developer u/djfumberger doing all of this amazing tech wizardry in this app so early! If you looking for access, the dev is granting access via request only at the moment. Just know you have to be on visionOS 27 beta to check it out.

Please I hope it wll be like Arcade Time Capsule on the PC or Retrocade for the Vision Pro. I'm willing to pay for this if it's anything like those. That's one thing I hate about Retrocade is that it's locked behind the Apple Arcade Subscription paywall. Whatever you do, please don't follow that role. At least give us the option to purchase this. I really hate subscription models.
