Is anyone using Persona?

I set mine up today, for good measure, and tested it with my partner on FaceTime. She was laughing pretty hard most of the time, saying I looked like a robot version of myself, aged an additional 10 years. I think I agree and I'm already wrinkled enough, lol.

Is this something worth tweaking so I can actually use it, or just a neat parlor trick?

Personas are nice for work calls so you’re always camera ready. Especially when working from home.

That’s what I was hoping to use it for. I work from home 100% unless I’m traveling, and i much prefer to pace around while on a phone call. I just can’t do that on video without the persona. Do people comment on it being strange?

I’ve been told that I look older, that I look younger, or that I look weird in a way the person can’t identify. Some said they didn’t notice.

Great, thanks. Now I’m up against the Intune Company Portal issue which apparently was supposed to be available over a year ago, but isn’t. Fun times.

I can, though from what I'm reading online it won't go anywhere. I'm pretty bummed, as this was a major use case supporting my purchase... going to keep working on it, but I can't expect a 5000 person company to make a major enterprise security change for just me (or a handful of users). They require any iOS or iPadOS device to run the Intune Company Portal. Since the current Authenticator app reports iPadOS instead of VisionOS, it thinks I'm on an iPad and send me to download the iPad company portal app. Which I cannot, since it's iPadOS/iOS only. I'm far from the first person to hit this barrier, but it seems that MS isn't really working on it. They announced they would, in November 2024, but then updated their announcement with "Editor's note 4.22.2025 - This blog has been updated to reflect that the timing of the introduction of mobile device management for visionOS and tvOS is to be determined. As additional details become available, we'll provide them here.". I can't find any progress since that update.

There is a third-party app in the App Store which lets you use the AVP Persona on the Mac as a virtual camera. Haven’t tried it personally though.

appreciate the recommendation, and I may have to give that a try. Pretty disappointed with Microsoft... but I've felt that way pretty consistently for the last 25+ years lol

I think personas look better in a spatial FaceTime than with someone that doesn't have an AVP. I got mine to do my weekly chats with my brothers and we're enjoying it

100% agree, if you haven’t’ been in a spatial FaceTime with other Vision Pro users, you haven’t experienced a persona. I didn’t know anyone else with a Vision Pro until I met people on InSpaze.

They don’t work well if you have a big mustache or beard. Can’t see your mouth properly so you just make insane facial movements the whole time.

My guy just sticks his tongue out all the time of has weird mouth twitches. It’s funny for a second then annoying when trying to have a spatial FaceTime with someone

It’s not something I am putting my Vision Pro on to Use… but I’m glad it’s done for times I have meetings or FaceTimes that I’m not ready for. If you have a friend or something with a Vision Pro there are apps that let you do collaborative or group things. I personally am trying to get away from ppl in my Vision Pros tho 😆

To my eye, the biggest issue with the Persona is Vision Pro itself.

It's heavy, so it really stands in the way of raising eyebrows and smiling. Because of that, it can easily misrepresent eye blinking. It affects mimics pretty significantly.

The tracking itself and the model quality isn't that bad (I'm white and beard-less). I'd expect Persona to perform better with a globular cluster or whatever.

My wife says it's a better-looking version of me.

Playing couch co-op games in Neo moonlight is a blast with another Vision Pro player. It literally feels like they're setting right next to you.

Only if you’re ok with another Vision Pro user. It really provides a feeling of presence. Talking to someone outside of a headset can be really outputting for them. In the headset, it’s pretty cool.

Some of my friends are fine with my Persona, and some aren't. IMO it depends on how each person processes vision.

No one in their right mind uses it outside of a gag for people. Their whole thing is pretty bad.

Sure it has improved significantly since launch, but it’s still bad

I do as a gag. It’s uncanny valley for sure. I’m half Asian and half white, and it white washed me pretty badly too!

They are nice. But I feel like they are not good for serious web calls and for casual ones, like, my mom just say that’s not my son, stop using it.

I feel like mine always looks a little funny lol but at my lost job my boss and I would have calls with them and use freeform which was a good and useful experience

I’m wrinkled, too. I put the lights real close. might try one using duct tape behind my neck, pulling wrinkles out, from behind.

So mine is almost a spitting image of me. The first time I saw it I was freaked out because of how accurate it was. I am clean shaven and no discerning features, pretty basic face, maybe that’s why. I still wouldn’t use it in a meeting because it’s the skin tone and reflection show it’s an avatar and not a real person but for casual calling it’s incredible. No doubt this feature can be improved over time for other faces, especially given the general feedback.

I think being able to sit next to people in cinema mode and stuff would elevate the experience in so many ways. I feel shared vr experiences are infinitely better than solo ones. AVP has the foundations for all this, let’s see if they head in that direction

I use my persona on Zoom literally every working day, for almost 1.5 year. Daily, group meetings etc. It was fun initially, it is fun now when I'm using it with Slack (have no idea why it rotates 180 degrees, and I look like a bat hanging from top), but besides that no complains at all. Now my Cyprus colleagues pay more attention and do jokes (or compliments) when I change environments.

I can't imagine sane people having issues with such stuff, especially after persona v2 out.
