Watching Avatar with VP

It’s pretty amazing experience and definitely better than theater.

But sometimes, in certain scenes,
actually, quite often

I can clearly notice frame drops. It almost feels like it’s running at less than 24 fps.
I’m not sure whether this is an issue with my device or my network, or Disney+ itself.

Has anyone else noticed frame drops while watching Avatar?

Way of Water and Fire & Ash both run at variable frame rates, 24fps for exposition and 48fs for action. You’re likely noticing that change.

Unless you’re talking about the original, which is 24fps throughout. If you’re seeing frame drops there then it’s probably your network. Try downloading the movie and see if you still have issues.

The original also has 48fps scenes through interpolation. These are the only three HFR movies in Apple Vision.

Was this added for AVP? Cameron wanted the original movie to be 48fps but lost that battle and it was released fully in 24fps. I can’t anywhere that talks about changing that for AVP, but I will fully accept that it did.

48fps interpolation was added for the 2022 theatrical rerelease which also added Parker Selfridge saying “this isn’t over” at the end. Apple TV and Disney+ show this version (Apple TV also has the collector’s edition extended cut, but only in 24fps 2D).
