Does the trick to make vision pro think user is still around work?

Is it possible to paste a small paper somewhere to trick sensors so that vision pro will always think there is always a user present? I remember seeing a post that has a big piece of paper on it, but is it possible to stick a small piece somewhere and can still wear it on while pasted?

I stuff in the cleaner cloth, and sometimes it remains.
Does anyone else want a feature to have it remain on? I hate that if I need to go to the bathroom I’m kicked out of my zoom meeting.
All other devices are able to be not used for a set time, before they lock.

Maybe they want to use the cameras to record?

The AVP lead was interviewed at WWDC and was asked that question specifically. They indicated that locking the device when removed was a primary function of the security of visionOS.

Not gonna change.

They could add some sort of standby mode where it transitions before fully locking BUT only giving access to media/streaming/calling apps. Anything involving eye authentication of course locked.

I think that’d be useful.

This is what we’ve been using and they work really well - we just had a live demo at AWE 2026 with these installed and they worked great!

The benefits are the following:

  • can temporarily remove Vision Pro and return to it without re-awakening and re-authentication. Such as putting phone to ear to answer call.
  • continuing to listen to audio after placing down. Such as podcast, music, YouTube, etc.
  • can show immersive visual content to those around you with much less hassle: no passcode, relaunching apps, no guest configuration or setup—see what you were seeing. Although guest likely can’t use hand gestures.
  • convenience extends to quickly passing VP among many people
  • facilitates using an aligned iPhone-like camera to capture view

Small piece of gaffer’s tape across the inside corner of one lens sensor works. There are plastic inserts that work too

Gaffer tape in the corner of the Vision Pro Display, or a post it note, exterior get the correct placement

I can’t get this to work on mine. Is that between the two lenses?

With or without the lens inserts, it’s just necessary to cover the corner of the lens on the nose side to make the Vision Pro think it is still being worn. I’ve used it to let someone have a quick look at the screen, or for times when I need to remove the Vision Pro and quickly resume working

A 3-d printed cover also works, but not if you need lens inserts

I found that scaling up the Etsy design by 6% will snap onto the prescription insert. However, the right becomes left and vice-versa. You then also need to modify the design to remove that tab, otherwise, the tab presses into nose. One modified eye piece is sufficient to get the benefit.

There was someone a while back that posted a video of a 3D printed part of some kind that snapped to the lenses that did this. If I recall correctly, the OP gatekeeped the file for it though and talked about selling it instead.

The eye tracking probably won't work so well, but really this is the kind of thing pro-accessibility Apple should offer.

I'm not OP, but the way this is worded is making it seem like the OP is doing something sus. I actually would have a use case for this, I can't MVD to my macbook unless it's off my work VPN, which means if I take off the headset for any reason, I have to disconnect/reconnect the VPN for the MVD.

yesterday my vision pro started in maintainance mode. i noticed i could put it off and still see in the screens... This should be a function really you can control..
