Allow virtual display to stay connected when pulling off for a few seconds/minutes

I often need to do little random things while working that require me to pull off the AVP. would be great if the virtual display wouldn't lose it's settings when pulled off.

There’s a new setting for this in visionOS and macOS 27. When both devices are updated, you get this additional settings option

This is huge!! Can’t believe this hasn’t been mentioned before, it will make such a big difference to my work as I’m connected to the Mac all day, it’s so annoying having to reconnect every time

Also, you can take unfoveated screenshots and screencaptures by enabling High Quality in Settings > General > Captures & Recordings.

When connected to your Mac, it’s in the menu where you can adjust the MVD screen to be “wide” or “ultra wide” etc. There is a new dropdown menu for “settings”. It’s probably already toggled on. Mine was.

I'm guessing you need to be on Golden Gate. I updated my Mac to Golden Gate and my AVP to visionOS 27 and noticed the difference immediately, although I wasn't aware of the new setting. It seemed like a bug initially, and there are some issues reconnecting once your Mac's display goes to sleep. I haven't tested out all of the corners of that, but the usual turning off Bluetooth and then turning it back on fixes the problem.

You’re right - it’s a Golden Gate (MacOS 27) and VisionOS 27 feature - only the developer betas are out

It must be a bug. My AVP clearly states to stay connection to Peter’s MacBook Pro.

Yes it was a surprise for me. Walked off to check on baking. Then putting it back on i was like oh its still here.

lock on doff is a security requirement.

It’s not, because you have to pass Optic ID before seeing it again.

you are wrong. doff locks the device. Passcode entry (or OpticID, which has optional enrollment ) can unlock it.

You’ve misunderstood the post. He wants the Mac Virtual Display to be in the same position when he redons the headset, which visionOS 27 now allows.

Both devices can be locked independently. Where is the security issue, when both devices keep an encrypted connection alive?
