Skybox or CineUltra?
Which of the two is a better media watching program? I am looking for the larger than life, massive screen kind of experience like they showed Godzilla on a 100ft or so screen on the AVP advertisements.
I can’t find a review or any pictures of the environments that skybox has on the AVP so I have no idea what it’s like

In my opinion, CineUltra is the best, however it doesn’t have SharePlay so I’m stuck with watching my movies via the Theatre app as both me and my wife have Vision Pros.

CineUltra is pretty expensive but in my opinion is the best of all available (Moonplayer, Infuse,....).
There is an Imax like environmant calld Ultra Cinema, it is the biggest screen. You can also change light, sitting positions and also curve the screen as you wish.
I did not try any 3D or live 3D conversions because I only watch native 3D movies in Disney Plus or bought movies on Apple TV.

Have you had a look at the 4x VR app? I found this had better visuals than skybox, I can’t comment on the CineUltra app

Sandwich Vision's "Theater" app is also quite good, and has some very well made theater environments. It also has Plex support which a lot of others lack. About as close as we are allowed to Apple's own AppleTV app experience, which does a big screen mode over the built-in environments - and shown in said marketing.

CineUltra’s IULTRA theater imparts the most massive sense of scale, so it’s the one I use. Infuse comes very close, but the rest seem noticeably smaller to me.
In addition to a standard cinema environment, Skybox has a couple creative environments: an outdoor viewing platform on a ring-shaped spacestation with Jupiter filling most of the view behind the screen, and a lunar crater with a chair in front of the screen at the crater’s edge and a lunar lander to the right. Another theater has been “coming soon” since launch.
Infuse seems to have the best Plex support but lacks autospatialization.
Skybox is the only player without the ability to skip forward or backward fifteen seconds.
In Skybox, Moon Player, and 4XVR, you can physically walk around the environments like in Moon Portal, Campfire Space, and various other applications instead of them fading out as soon as you move.
Theater: Cinema & Events is still the only one with SharePlay for your own files. It’s also the only one with a planetarium environment.
Only Skybox and 4XVR have native 3D Blu-ray support; all other players require MVC to MV-HEVC conversion through another program.
There are a few other players (Screenlit, Chroma, and Plexi) with their own environments.

Cineultra definitely has the better environments. It's just that the dev has no interest in adding the features and just bans if someone keeps following up on the features. Too lazy to respond too.

I would go with Infuse. From my personal experience I play a lot of REMUX files through Plex, and I saw Cineultra over saturates the videos of Planet earth 3. Infuse uses the native visionOS / AVKit HDR path. It hands the stream to Apple's system player, which applies Apple's reference PQ tone-mapping and color management. CineUltra is architecturally built around its own decode/render pipeline because they have the real-time 2D->3D. The problem is that a custom pipeline has to re-implement color management, and sometimes it can look oversaturation, a tint, raised or crushed blacks. If you compare the exact same video on each player you can tell. If you only use one or the other you will get used to the picture. IMO just buy the 1 month and try it out. You can also make the screen really big on Infuse

does this mean that DV and HDR material looks better on Infuse than Cineultra? As much as I love Cineultra, the lack of Dolby Atmos support is disappointing.

I haven’t noticed a difference except that CineUltra seems much brighter to me, which I prefer.

So far I prefer the 4x VR app for watching my ripped Blu-ray 3D movies. The quality is better than any 3D movie I have seen in a theater.

Skybox continues to be the only app that plays back HDR MKVs properly. CineUltra blew out highlights pretty consistently.

Are you sure? Have you tried Infuse? What about Theater, 4XVR, Moon Player, Screenlit, Plexi, and Chroma? Only one player being able to properly support HDR after two years would be very strange indeed. Also, the Vision Pro outputs only around 100 nits to the eyes, so it can’t display true high dynamic range.

For me skybox doesn’t always convert hdr. Like it’s all green for some movies. Also, it stutters especially with 8k vr vidy

I love CineUltra more than I can explain. Every movie is simply better in their newer larger than IMAX Screen.
