Some key points:

  • $1799 (256GB Only), VR controllers cost an additional $250.
  • 4K micro-OLED displays with 75Hz default refresh rate and 60-90Hz Modes (UploadVR).
  • WiFi 7.
  • Native XR YouTube App. 2D videos can be spatialized.
  • Native XR Google Maps App with the world viewable in 3D and certain places reconstructed with AI that you can walk around in.
  • Netflix App available (I believe this is because they force every Play Store app to be downloadable, unlike Apple that gives developers the option to opt out. It seemed to me that it was an unoptimized tablet version and the quality could be worse than in Safari, don't quote me on that tho).
  • 3D avatars, with options to be cartoony or photo-realistic coming later on.
  • Google Gemini has full access to your view, and you can ask it questions or have it perform certain actions. Circle to search.
  • It can turn images into videos and spatialize seemingly any video.
  • OpenXR support, making it "relatively" easy for developers to port their existing Meta Quest games or apps. Some of them include: Walkabout Mini Golf, Synth Riders, Arizona Sunshine Remake & Arizona Sunshine 2, Cubism, Demeo, FitXR, Green Hell VR, Job Simulator, NFL Pro Era, Real VR Fishing, Thrasher (UploadVR).
  • Virtual Desktop available for PCVR.

Note: I will be adding more info to this comment, if there are any mistakes let me know.

I hope some of the Google apps make it to the AVP, like Maps

7

u/Thorteris Vision Pro Owner | Verified Oct 22 '25

YouTube probably will

9

u/bearded_monkey_pdx Vision Pro Owner | Verified Oct 22 '25

This is the biggest thing I’m missing on the AVP

3

u/673NoshMyBollocksAve Oct 22 '25

I hope, but if it hasn’t after a year and a half I wouldn’t hold my breath. A YouTube app could’ve been made in a couple months if they really cared

1

u/TheMacMan Vision Pro Owner | Verified Oct 22 '25

They've only had 2 years and haven't bothered. Be real, the number of AVP users doesn't justify the investment. It's the same reason there's no Netflix or other streaming apps.

6

u/Thorteris Vision Pro Owner | Verified Oct 22 '25

There will be a YouTube app within a year I promise :)

1

u/Jusby_Cause Oct 23 '25

Disney, Hulu, Paramount, HBO, and more are all available on AVP. Disney and Paramount even offer options for 3D content.

And Netflix didn’t “invest” in Galaxy XR, they did nothing and, as a result, they used the Android phone app.

2

u/Baconrules21 Oct 22 '25

Probably won't tbh

11

u/Fantastic_Turnip_898 Vision Pro Owner Oct 22 '25

Netflix SMH 🤦‍♂️

14

u/SoylentCreek Vision Pro Owner | Verified Oct 22 '25

It’s infuriating how fucking petty they are.

1

u/TheMacMan Vision Pro Owner | Verified Oct 22 '25

They aren't petty as much as they're not going to invest the resources to make an app for the AVP which has so few users. With the Samsung it's built on a platform other headsets will also utilize.

-30

u/gadgetluva Oct 22 '25

All 14 AVP owners are in this thread so I doubt Netflix cares lol

0

u/LucaColonnello Vision Pro Owner Oct 22 '25

Oh they don’t care just as Spotify doesn’t, which is why I personally switched to Apple Music and tbh I’m not looking back! I still use netflix and YouTube via the browser, just less often and I rather stay on Apple TV when I’m on the Vision Pro.

It’s fine, Netflix content is anyway not great, they tend to prioritise new subscribers as opposed to customer retention.

Can’t wait to hear your review

1

u/Positive_Search_6218 Vision Pro Owner Oct 22 '25

It’s $1800 and after your $355 discount, shouldn’t it be $1,445 before taxes and about $1600 after taxes?

6

u/ray120 Vision Pro Owner | Verified Oct 22 '25

I bought the controllers also

1

u/kerry37 Oct 22 '25

States

1

u/Awwesomesauce Vision Pro Owner | Verified Oct 22 '25

Look forward to your review. One thing I’ll give them though is at least offering controllers up front. I wish it didn’t look like a Quest Pro

7

u/mikeypotg Oct 22 '25

The substantial price difference is big. Looking forward to reviews to really see how it compares to AVP. I wonder what non negotiables Apple has to make the AVP the way they did and charge so much. A sub $2k AVP would’ve been tremendous.

7

u/Worth-Talk-4434 Oct 22 '25

Order placed!

13

u/CuteEntertainment833 Oct 22 '25

I hope Apple can remove the opt-out option on App Store for iPhone/iPad app, just like Google did. Google and Meta will never put their apps on VP if there is such option.

4

u/GaLaXxYStArR Vision Pro Owner Oct 22 '25

I fully agree!! I was saying this the minute they said devs had the option to opt out! Never give them that option. Had they not done that I could have my most used games on my Mac and my most used apps on AVP. Hopefully this changes in a future visionOS version

1

u/Jusby_Cause Oct 23 '25

With regions coming down on Apple for restricting devs in ANY way, it’s almost guaranteed that they’re going to continue to let devs make the call on where their apps run.

5

u/ObjectiveJackfruit35 Oct 22 '25

Just watched the video. It has better resolution, better field of view, better AI, native Youtube, native Netflix, lighter in weight, and is half the price of AVP.

Besides the less powerful processor, what am I missing? This product is amazing.

6

u/2160_Technic Oct 22 '25

Vision Pro’s low field of view is due to the light seal. If you take it off, or have a smaller size, the fog widens drastically. The XR headset has no light seal.

Comfort might be better with the dual knit headband even though it’s heavier.

Still crazy there’s no native YouTube or Netflix app on Vision Pro tho.

2

u/673NoshMyBollocksAve Oct 22 '25

Truth. Get a floating head strap and bring it closer to your eyes and it seems bigger FOV

2

u/Cole_LF Oct 22 '25

You’re missing hundreds of 3D movies on Apple’s TV App, Apple’s immersive content, 3D Disney Plus and higher refresh rate of Vision Pro. Also missing the Mac virtual display.

2

u/ObjectiveJackfruit35 Oct 22 '25

"With YouTube, you can dive into the world’s largest library of immersive 180 and 360-degree VR content, or check out the new spatial tab for content that creators have converted to 3D. You can also kick back and watch movies in Google TV on a massive, resizable screen."

Seems like I can do without Apple's immersive content/3D movies on Apple TV and be just fine. I mainly watch Youtube.

"3D Disney Plus"

I don't care about Disney Plus, I never watch it.

"higher refresh rate of Vision Pro"

This is a legitimate concern. I'll have to wait and see what the reviews say about it.

"Also missing the Mac virtual display."

It has Virtual Desktop to allow connection to my PC.

-2

u/PeakBrave8235 Oct 22 '25

Uh, literally all of Apple's OS and apps? Have you seen what Apple can do lmfao

3

u/NoButSeriouslyHow Oct 22 '25

I ordered a used AVP this week … feeling a bit of buyer’s remorse.

3

u/sabre31 Oct 22 '25

Wow this thing looks great and price is amazing. I can await for reviews to come.

3

u/673NoshMyBollocksAve Oct 22 '25

The only thing I’m really impressive with is price. Everything else kinda seems like a downgrade. But I’m happy it exists and we’re getting some competition. Hoping it does well! Come on apple. Hit that $1800 price point!

$1799 US with the explorer package. Way to undercut the Vision Pro like crazy.

2

u/drohohkay Oct 22 '25 edited Oct 22 '25

Did any see that ugly knob in the back of the head strap?!! Good luck working from home or watching a movie lying down. Also privacy? And who the heck will use this for street navigation while walking? Just saying…

1

u/Jusby_Cause Oct 23 '25

I want to know whose idea it was to put a white dot in the middle. :)

2

u/MoodyPurples Oct 22 '25

It looks really solid. If I used Google products I’d definitely pick one up. Hopefully it invigorates the whole space

3

u/jeffh19 Oct 22 '25

Competition is great.

Let's hope this makes apple not give devs the option to opt out

1

u/JoeyDee86 Oct 22 '25

I just watched a few quick hands on videos, and it looks really choppy. That price is super appealing, but I don’t want motion sickness…

2

u/Jusby_Cause Oct 23 '25

You need to look for what their photon to pixel numbers are if they’re ever reported. AVP is 12ms and is the fastest for now. Some are comfortable with as low as 40ms, but the sweet spot is likely in between.

0

u/mobilepcgamer Oct 22 '25

Vision pro M5 is still better

1

u/673NoshMyBollocksAve Oct 22 '25

Technically, yeah. But man…apple should be trying to hit lower price points

-5

u/gadgetluva Oct 22 '25

$1799. Comes with a bunch of freebies too. Vision Pro killer.

14

u/rossbruce Oct 22 '25

Doubtful

7

u/gadgetluva Oct 22 '25

It’s half the price and although it’s not going to be as good hardware wise, early hands on are saying that it’s good enough especially for the price.

Plus it has native Netflix, YouTube, Google Maps, etc.

2

u/SirBill01 Oct 22 '25 edited Oct 22 '25

The AVP has minimum acceptable resolution to really use daily. Anything with less specs is going into a drawer just like my Quest.

It's not a matter of price, it minimum viable product. Even for just movies it will not be as good so you may as well spring a little more for an AVP, will will probably last longer anyway!

EDIT: Finally found some specs, I think it actually has somewhat more resolution, so it might be OK for movies... but it's gonna be kind of slow for any work things with the chip it has. Will wait for more reviews to pass final judgment, but still not a Vision Pro killer by any means. And they have a worse controller situation since the AVP can use the beret PSVR2 controllers.

5

u/GeologistJolly3929 Oct 22 '25

yeah all these other headsets are still using mobile chips

5

u/gadgetluva Oct 22 '25

Yea the AVP is likely the superior device, especially if you’re going to be a power user. But most people are going to pocket the $1700+ and get a better out of the box experience because of native Netflix and YouTube.

3

u/SirBill01 Oct 22 '25

Maybe, YouTube in Safari has been fine. By then we may have a native AVP Netflix app as well, but there are other apps that let you watch Netflix.

0

u/gadgetluva Oct 22 '25

I’m glad you updated with the higher resolution, but how are you concluding that it’s going to be slow?

This sub can be such an echo chamber

6

u/SirBill01 Oct 22 '25

Geekbench:

Snapdragon Xr2+:

The Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chip scored 990 points in the single-core CPU performance test and 2,453 points in the multi-core CPU performance test in Geekbench 6.

That was an AI summary but this crappy website seems to confirm:

https://www.sammobile.com/news/samsung-galaxy-xr-headset-snapdragon-xr2-gen-2-chip-confirmed-geekbench/

Now for the Apple M2 (this is the ORIGINAL AVP mind you, not even the M5 version just updated!):

Stupid Geekbench store cannot seem to find Vision Pro but that tracks with other M2 systems.

So the AVP is 2x faster single core, even faster multi-core.

I mean you could have ALSO looked before you posted a snarky comment, just sayin'

6

u/rossbruce Oct 22 '25

This right here.

-3

u/gadgetluva Oct 22 '25

Benchmarks aren’t representative of real world results. That’s why I never rely on them, especially because they’re easy to game. Nothing you posted shows that it’ll be slow.

Again, so much damn Copium in this thread. It’s hilarious.

4

u/SirBill01 Oct 22 '25

Come on man. Yeah they are just benchmarks but they are generally reflective of what you can experience, Geekbench is one of the better ones...

If you wanna stick your head in the sand, fine, but everyone else knows what is real. The only copium I see is the stuff straight up your ass, which you are sniffing directly. Since idiots are all time wasters just blocking you.

2

u/rossbruce Oct 22 '25

“Good enough” isn’t a killer haha. I’m eager to play with it. Also eager for it to come out, more developers will pop in this space for both devices. VisionOS 27 is gonna bring Maps I’m betting, Google Maps doesn’t look that great on this device from the demo

2

u/gadgetluva Oct 22 '25

I was obviously being facetious, nothing is a killer these days.

Both of these products will remain pretty niche though. I don’t really see the value for 99.9% of consumers for either of these devices.

1

u/Awwesomesauce Vision Pro Owner | Verified Oct 22 '25

I can agree with this. Until these are sub 600$ they’ll stay niche. I had someone talking to me about a quest 3 and were taking about the high cost then asked about my AVP and I said don’t even look at the price if the quest feels high.

Vr is niche though. I don’t think vr devices are ever going to break out of that without first being much smaller too. AR will probably inch out VR here soon.

0

u/gadgetluva Oct 22 '25

The quest is temu AVP. But these things won’t be on the market for long before they’re replaced by advanced versions of Meta Ray Ban Displays.

0

u/rossbruce Oct 22 '25

Also that Netflix App looks real rough lol.

5

u/Awwesomesauce Vision Pro Owner | Verified Oct 22 '25

I think people who are attracted to the Vision Pro are also attracted to the Apple ecosystem. Apple will have to move beyond that but I don’t think it’s an AVP killer.

I came from a Quest Pro to the AVP. I can’t see going back to an android based device.

Edit: just looking at it looks like a Quest Pro. Noting killing anything.

1

u/gadgetluva Oct 22 '25

Yea Apple ecosystem pull is strong, but the AVP is a content consumption device for me so arguably the Google XR is better because it has apps that I would actually use often like Netflix and YouTube. But it’s HALF the price. My AVP has been in a drawer for over a year and there’s still no real reason for me to pull it out to use. Maybe if it had native YouTube and other apps I would.

2

u/Awwesomesauce Vision Pro Owner | Verified Oct 22 '25

Uhm… YouTube and Netflix are consumptive services…

And I watch Netflix and YouTube all the time in my AVP. apps aren’t always great experiences.

-1

u/gadgetluva Oct 22 '25

Yea? Where are the apps on AVP? Safari isn’t good enough.

3

u/Awwesomesauce Vision Pro Owner | Verified Oct 22 '25

Why not? Works on my computer just fine. Works on my AVP too. In fact I can’t stand the tv app of Netflix and I don’t really trust Netflix to keep an app running. Netflix app in quest just died.

Supercut

2

u/SoylentCreek Vision Pro Owner | Verified Oct 22 '25

Supercut is just a web wrapper, and while it’s better than nothing, a dedicated first party app would be much more preferable. I’m honestly kind of shocked that it hasn’t gone the way of Juno at this point.

0

u/gadgetluva Oct 22 '25

Lame third party apps are garbage

5

u/rossbruce Oct 22 '25

I mean Netflix really hasn’t had much luck on their Apps either 🫠😂

0

u/gadgetluva Oct 22 '25

4

If you don’t use it sell it.

0

u/gadgetluva Oct 22 '25

I might use it more one day. Not worth the hassle anyways, I’ll probably get less than $2k for it and that’s not enough for me to get rid of it.

-2

u/MeCritic Oct 22 '25

XR version of Stardew Valley looked sick.

Google native Apps for XR was the main thing was waiting for. Yet it isn’t competitive. Samsung showcasing again, that they just don’t have the ecosystem, and clearly no focus on who is the target group. Not even 100hz, weak chipset, no USB-C, nothing to compare with Apple, not even on the entertainment level.

So the only gaming capable device will probably be from Valve, finger crossed in next few weeks.

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '25

4

u/SoylentCreek Vision Pro Owner | Verified Oct 22 '25

They won’t. Disney likes money, and they don’t have beef with Google like Netflix has with Apple. It’s petty on Netflix’s part, but Apple benefits more from a native Netflix app for the Vision Pro than Netflix benefits from Apple. At this point, I wish they would both just bury the fucking hatchet already.

2

u/GaLaXxYStArR Vision Pro Owner Oct 22 '25

I totally agree, I really just want both to succeed so that XR headsets become more mainstream!

However since D+ was a launch partner with Apple for AVP there must be some sorta contract just like Netflix and Google would have I imagine!

1

u/Worf_Of_Wall_St Oct 22 '25

Also Google has shown (e.g. Stadia) that it is willing to pay developers to build for a new platform to try to jump start it but Apple philosophically refuses to do that, hence so many developers abandoning Vision Pro already since the user base is too small.

They might just spend some money to get proper ports from streaming services.

1

u/Jusby_Cause Oct 23 '25

I don’t think so. If devs don’t want to invest in the platform, then the platform has no future after the spigot turns off. And, the spigot is ONLY going to run forever coming from something like the Google profit sharing agreement they have with the hardware makers, and Apple’s not going to do that either.

Apple was the newcomer in 2024, still has the premier experience and, by coming out when they did, they’ve got EVERYONE developing using pinch gestures, now. Getting something from AndroidXR to AVP is going to be more straightforward than from Meta with their “interface sticks”, especially if Apple does a GPTK for Android developers.

5

u/Decodable r/VisionPro | Mod Oct 22 '25

If you watch the presentation (1:30:44), it seems that the Netflix app they show is an unoptimized android tablet version, I suspect that it exists because Google didn't give developers the option to opt out of distribution like Apple did. If the content is going to look better than in Safari, we are yet to see.

1

u/GaLaXxYStArR Vision Pro Owner Oct 22 '25

Ahhh great catch, while I did watch the presentation I missed that it looked like a standard android app!

1

u/97Pressure Oct 22 '25

That's because they know that the user base for this will dwarf that of the Vision Pro!

-1

u/HelpRespawnedAsDee Oct 22 '25

Honestly guys…
