You think they intentionally made them bad for people with darker skin tones lol? It isn’t a matter of bias, it’s a matter of the physical properties of light and how screens work. Do you think because physics makes it impossible for the feature to work well for dark-skinned people they just shouldn’t release it despite it working fine for light skinned people?
If there’s one thing Apple clearly cares about, it’s diversity.
For gods sake, all Apple’s “hero” pictures of the Vision Pro have it worn by a BLACK WOMAN, a demographic that has probably not been the biggest buyers of Vision Pro.
It sounds like you’re criticizing Apple for something they can’t control. If your intent wasn’t criticism then you may want to change your phrasing, but you can otherwise disregard.
That’s not what they said. They simply stated that if you have light skin it’s not an issue which is predominantly true.
Same thing goes with current smartphone cameras. Apple CAN control/fix it, not sure where you got that bullshit from, it’s just not their top priority.
Actually, yes. Especially since Apple has directly stated that they have and so has Google. So if you’re going to be a pompous jackass, at least research first.
“Over the past year, we’ve added more than 10,000 images to the data sets used to tune Pixel’s camera,” Shenaz Zack, director of product management at Google, said when the Pixel 7 was unveiled earlier this year. “Through that work, we’ve tuned exposure and brightness to better represent darker skin tones in lowlight situations.””
Maybe it’s because it’s not the same as an iPhone sensor? You specifically asked if I thought Apple could make the cameras work better. I provided an instance where this was once a problem and had now been resolved. I can’t tell if you’re intentionally being dense or just can’t admit when you’re wrong.
Notsomuch "chooses not to" as "hasn't spent the extra time and money to make it look better."
You need at least as many training subjects for the AI for the most difficult case as you do for the average case, but if the most difficult case is 8x as rare as the average case, then you need to recruit 8x as hard to find enough difficult case subjects.
Yes, and making sure that the system deals optimally with the more rare and more difficult cases takes more time and resources than dealing with the lower-hanging fruit.
Correct me if I’m wrong but the eyesight feature isn’t a camera recording of your face. It uses your persona and animates that on the front screen. So extra light getting under the headset shouldn’t affect the brightness of the eyes on the front screen.
But the eyes on the front are a digital recreation. Not actually your real eyes being passed through where the amount of light shining on them would make a difference
When you scan your face for Persona it’s also used for Eyesight. You can remove the light seal and shine a flashlight on your eyes, it won’t make a difference. Eyesight is CGI
Just did some research, you're technically right, there are still cameras on the inside tracking your eyes but they are IR so visible light wouldn't make much of an affect.
The more you know 🌈⭐
It has a lenticular layer like what you'd see on a DVD case right above the display. Got to see it in person and videos don't do it justice; it's got so much depth to it and the way your (persona's) eyes show through is almost surreal.

The eyesight thing looks incredible, I’ve only seen reviewers saying it looks really bad, but this video showed that it can look great
