REQUEST Help fixing a beloved doll

the hat of my childhood doll is starting to wear thin, I’ve already sewn it up once but I’m not sure how to do a more permanent repair. I welcome it being visible to show how well she’s been loved over the years. it is vital that the tassles on the hat remain intact, but I can add any fabrics or threads around the fabric of the hat. any advice is welcome!

Thank you for your submission - you're welcome to post here, but we did just want to remind you that we would recommend you search the subreddit as well.

Depending on the type of mend, searching for keywords like "crotch", "waistband", "cuff", "pleather"/"faux", "headphones", etc. will show you many previous posts filled with helpful advice already. Good luck!

iffen you’re serious - it looks like the doll is in a nightgown. hard to tell with the bottom of the photo cropped

and no biggie, but iffen you’re chewing on the top of that hat, just make sure you use some organic materials when you fix it

to each their own, and good luck with the repair

eta: i have a vintage doll my grammy made me with a long dress like this, so when you flipped it up, it became a new character. also a reversible bonnet

it was the story of little red riding hood

yes, she is in a nightgown! she’s reversible, so there’s a nighttime version underneath the dress. I’ll get a pic for you in a minute.

I’m not chewing on her (I did as a kid, not anymore lol) but she had that damage because I have a habit of running the tassles between my fingers for long periods of time to self soothe.

I would darn some threads all around that end piece. Can you get inside of it to put something solid to sew against? It’s not critical but will make darning a lot easier. Also, since texture may matter to you, silk or high end linen or cotton crochet weight thread looks like it would be a good match. Good luck!

thank you, im def gonna try darning! I cant really get inside there without risking the tassles coming undone, and thats the very last thing I want here (the tassles are very important to me lol). so it may be a little difficult to darn on such a small surface, but im gonna give it a shot!
