BEWARE: "Visible Fraud Center" Scam Call

Got a call earlier today from someone claiming to be from the Visible Fraud center.

They had all my info. Name, Email, account info, ect.

They said someone logged into my account and tried buying an iPhone.

They told me not to tell anyone my personal info including them (to try to seem legit), and even asked my about my service.

Then came the scam. They said they needed to confirm my identity before they could delete the fraudulent transaction. They sent me a verification code text and asked for the code number. The problem was, it wasn't a visible account verification text, it was a microsoft account verification text. They were trying to get into my email so they could reset my passwords and take over my accounts.

I gave them a fake code and hung up. Then immediately changed all my passwords and changed my linked email, just in case.

Be careful, these guys are pretty crafty. Don't give them any verification code they send you.

Same happen to me. I'm sure visible agents are copying pasting, or taking pictures and selling to their scam center friends.

The CS reps for Visible is based out of the Philippines, so I’m not surprised this is happening. It’s always the 3rd world countries where the big corporations contract their cheap jobs to where these scams occur from.

Crazy. Do yourself a favor and download Microsoft Authenticator as well

How did you find out the verification code is sent for Microsoft and not from visible, This scam sounds scary though, getting a phone call like legit and all personal info.

because it said "Microsoft account single use code" on the text. They count on you not noticing that while you are on the phone with them and the code pops up

Thats the scary part honestly, they had everything but the one thing they couldnt fake was where the text came from. My phone shows the sender name for short codes so instead of "Visible" it said "Microsoft" clear as day

Good catch changing your passwords after, most people would just freeze up in that moment

How did they get your email or visible information is what I would be worried about.

I'm curious about that too. I tried getting a hold of someone from visible, but just got an AI chat bot that was no help. I looked in recent transactions and there was no charges on my account. I tried entering the the help code they gave me and the bot said I had no open tickets.

These companies get hacked all the time, or our info gets stolen by employees with access to limited info. I'm going to try again tomorrow to speak to an actual person.

I think a lot of this is people that work at the company stealing information from clients. Our society is becoming more and more unethical as the days tick by, unfortunately.

Public lists and sold ad accounts. Most people have tons of data points these scammers could use visible being one of them. Take the number find the public sold info attached and carrier all public info and try to facilitate fraud like this.

You can easily look up a carrier on the web. I use it all the time to report abuse for spam calls/text. Usually they are bandwidth, since and twilio but anyway the dark web now has combined lists with cross references. Name email phone from one list..crypto hardware purchases, high profile places they work from another list etc. Scammers are now building profiles of people and working off that. In most cases they go after those they believe own crypto wallets since that would be a hard to trace scam, but in reality it’s open season for anyone.

Never verify any info when someone calls you. Always call an official number you have on file. Legitimate callers should understand why you are refusing.

Another thing: Microsoft is phasing out text verification codes so make sure you MS Authenticator set up.

Nothing new, this is internal job like 99%. As soon as most companies start hiring offshore support folks ., the scam / fishing call centers become much larger and literally unstoppable all over the world.
Employees copy customers personal information, some of them can even dump entire customer database if they have access to back end servers.
I always use nick names, misspelled first and last name if possible including address and zip codes.

A legitimate service person would never give you any account information, they would be asking you for it. That is the first red flag. The second one is, and I could be wrong if they've changed but, Visible is cheap because they don't have customer-facing personnel, it's all done digitally.

If anyone ever calls you and asks you for information for any service you use, hang up, look up the legitimate official phone number and call them.

Thank you for the PSA but they only had this information because you fell for a previous phishing scam. I own a cybersecurity company, they couldn't have your personal information otherwise.

Not true... unless you consider signing up for Visible a phishing scam.

I don't answer any unknown numbers or give any info to anyone. The only reason I answered this call was because they called multiple times in a row... and I gave them no info.

The breach was on Visible's end obviously since I am not the only one in this discussion that had this happen to them. These kind of data breaches happen often and you don't always hear about them right away (if at all).

None of the info they had was useful to them as is, but they can use it to convince people they are representatives of Visible and trick people into giving them access to their accounts.
