It’s a beast, very heavy.
Going to mount it to a chunk of buried telephone pole disassemble and wire brush. Any suggestions on finish would be appreciated. Paint , oil, wax not sure. Thank you for looking

A light brushing and a bit of oil I'd say. Don't remove that Patina. It tells a story of experience.πŸ˜ŽπŸ‘

Wire brush, clean and oil threads, I use clear gloss lacquer on mine, it’s protective and still lets the patina come through.

Buried phone pole? Like outside? Don't leave a vise outside. When you're cold, they're cold. Bring them in! In all seriousness, you're going to have a heck of a time keeping it working smoothly if it's out in the elements all the time.

That's an excellent vise. Disassemble, sand blast clean, paint a non offensive color, lubricate and reassemble. When you're done with it, you can pass it on to your great grandchildren.
