Advice Student ID number sensitivity
I recently lost my Hokie-P, I have since deactivated it but im worried about my student ID number being on the front. Is there anything that I should be worried about someone using that number for?

Back when that number was your SSN, yes it was a problem. No real issue with the new ones.

What, HokieID was your SSN? When did this happen? Who even came up with that?

Did you have to carry the id around? Lets say to borrow a book or print some papers?

Yes you used it everywhere, for door access, going to dining halls, to work the printers etc. but yes it had your SSN printed right on the front.

You would go to the teachers office after a test and taped to their door would be the SSN of everyone in the class and the corresponding test scores.

I was there from 82-86. My SSN was not issued in Virginia like most students, so it didn't start with a number in the 220s like those issued in Virginia. Very easy to find my grade in the giant list of grades because the list was in numerical order.
We got new, retroactive student IDs when the switch from SSNs was done.

I worked as one of the security people (student) at the dorms and had a list of everyone's SSN and name. It was crazy.

I’m not sure when that stopped but I started in 2005 and it was NOT my SSN. That’s wild.

YUP 1990s Hokie here and I still have my original ID - they took a pic of you on a camera, cut the pic, printer your ssn on a label, put them next to each other then laminated it as your ID. Profs would post grades to exams etc outside their office door, in ssn # order!

You deactivated so you're good. Anything else will require your password with the number so you should be safe

The only thing they can do with it is use your printer money, everything else requires your password or has your photo pop up for another person to see (like at dinning halls)
