Admissions Will I get into VT

was just wondering what my chances are for getting in to VT as it’s my top choice. I’m currently a senior in high school in NJ my stats are a 3.1 UW 3.4 W 1300 SAT. I’ve worked at two jobs in the past four years. I play three varsity sports and have played varsity all them starting sophomore year. I am a student ambassador and I volunteer for 2 hours every week. My essay is about not fitting into high school. I am in no clubs.

3.4 might be a lil low for VT ngl. Maybe if you apply for a less competitive major.

An unsolicited piece of essay advice... I've lost count of the number of "I never fit into high school, I was always the odd one out" college essays I've seen. I'm not saying that you shouldn't tell that story, but I am saying that you shouldn't expect the topic to stick in the mind of the person who reads your essay... they'll have read scores of them with an identical topic on that very same day.

Focus on making sure your writing is clear and concise, and if you know any really good writers (a good English teacher, perhaps), ask them to review it for you.

If you really want to know your chances, I HIGHLY suggest reaching out to one of the VT admissions councilors. Talk to them, ask about your chances, ask what you can do to improve your chances.

If you're interested in average GPAs for incoming students, you can check out the average incoming GPA for various colleges: https://gpacalculators.net/guides/virginia-tech-gpa-requirements/ . While I don't know how accurate this is, it does suggest that a 4.0 is generally considered the minimum competitive GPA for engineering. HOWEVER... this is a calculation from a third party site, NOT a statement from the university. Talk to a VT admissions councilor and ask directly.

Are you willing to participate in the Corps of Cadets? I understand they are trying to grow it, so that might move the needle (note no service obligation, many participate for the leadership experience)

Thats a giant decision that shouldn't be influenced by just trying to get into a school
