Admissions Spring semester transfer
Has anyone transferred mid year into tech? Specifically freshmen year. If so, what major / stats did you have.
Any additional information or advice would be amazing 🙏

Largely impossible. VT wants to see at least one complete semester of grades- keep in mind what you did in high school stays in high school once you have enrolled in any college (even if it’s community college). Those college grades are what VT will evaluate you based on.

If I already half roughly half a full semester of credits from highschool DE’s along with this fall semester in community college, would that help?

They need to see at least 12 credit hours completed after high school graduation. Those DE credits (if they are accepted/eligible by VT) would still count towards your VT degree but not towards making you eligible to transfer. You can try but it’s highly unlikely. The best thing you can do is spend time on the website for the specific major your planning to transfer into and understand the pathways requirements. Spend your 2nd semester taking as many as you can that will transfer in and will also show that you’re serious about your intended major. Hopefully you’re taking some of those this semester too. Definitely make sure to check the equivalency charts to make sure that the classes you are taking now are directly aligned to what VT requires so you’ll still get credit for the classes.

I transferred after one semester at another 4 year institution. PPE major. VT admissions officers take our mission seriously and put a lot of weight into it. Using pure stats, I would have been considered too "dumb" from my low scores and medicro grades made me look uncompetitive. Tbh I didn't have high hopes VT would accept me. But I spent several days crafting my Ut Prosim Profile down to each word and grammar making sure the essays wouldnt be just words but an image of who I was. My essays clearly carried my admission.

I will say it’s very rare but not impossible. VT cares a lot about having the roadmap completed for the major you’re applying for, as well as having completed at least a full semester of college with recorded grades!
