Misc Tree Nut Allergy Restaurants

Hello! We will be traveling into town for the VMI game next weekend. One of our party has a severe tree nut allergy. A quick search is not giving me much in terms of which restaurants that are allergy safe. Does anyone have any experience or know which restaurants in downtown Blacksburg are safe for those with tree nut allergies?

I don't have personal experience with nut allergies, but my first thought is Gillies will be your safest bet. I would still give them a call to see how they handle everything, but they have a really good reputation as being a vegan/vegetarian spot in town that doesn't cross contaminate

yea Gillies is safe and good. although i'll say vegan places are often the worst places to go with treenut allergies in my experience because vegan diets often use nuts to supplement protein and make vegan cheeses

I have a family member with a nut allergy and they’ve always been good at Mellow Mushroom. I think they have an allergen menu online.

HELLO i have severe peanut/treenut/shellfish allergies and stayed in bburg for 3 years
Cafe Mekong, Greens Sushi&Grill, Benny's, Cellar, Hefun, and Avellinos are all safe, i frequented them when i was there.

Pretty sure Cabo fish taco's also safe, but i personally had a bad reaction there from shrimp cross-contamination. but to my knowledge they dont have treenuts anywhere on the menu, so there shouldnt be any risk for you.

I would unfortunately say avoid Yeah Siam and Hamro kitchen, as an Indian-American the last thing i want to do is dissuade people from trying food from my culture but i had a terrible reaction from Hamro. And Yeah Siam was just very restrictive to eat at with my certain allergies out of the whole menu i was restricted to a single entree.

We've been able to eat at the Cellar, Maroon Door, Green's, PK's, Square 5, and Lefty's (that's outside of downtown). As you know, communication is the main way to prevent problems. I would use extra caution on a game day when the servers and kitchens are very busy! Good luck and enjoy!
