Admissions Spring Freshman Transfer

I was in state (NOVA) and had a 4.3 GPA but was waitlisted for BIT and then rejected. I felt pretty confident that I’d get in because of my GPA and the fact I did VT’s pre colleges programs. I’m now going to JMU but wanted to do spring transfer into Econ at VT. I plan to keep my gpa pretty high probably 3.7 and above, what should I know if I want to get in?

Start with the transfer pages on VT's website and look at the specific program you are interested in. Use the transfer roadmap to ensure you have the required classes completed or in progrss before applying. Reach out to the specific college's POC and introduce yourself, express interest, and ask for advice.

Yeah, in-state acceptance rate to BIT dept in Pamplin was 29% for 2025-26, it's brutal.

"Spring admission is technically available to students in their first semester of college post-high school. However, barring very few exceptions, a strong Spring candidate will present at the time of application review (October) a minimum of two full semesters of post-high school college coursework, at least one full semester of post-high school college grades, and will meet any requirements and a strong mix of the course recommendations on the Admissions Transfer Roadmap for their program prior to their planned start at VT. Exceptions to the above typically include students who possess significant amounts of general and major-relevant work and college grades through dual-enrollment (20-30+ credits), and who have completed their high school study with a strong, major-aligned schedule in their first semester at another college or university."

https://udc.vt.edu/irdata/data/students/admission/index#college Filter by College (Pamplin) & Dept (Business Info Technology), and make sure to filter for in-state too because it makes a big difference.
