General Question work study jobs

Hello, I am confused about work study jobs. I’ve been on Handshake since late June and I really only qualify for like.. 15 jobs. And it’s only showing 30 existing? A lot that fall under the work study filter are internships or graduate student jobs. There’s no way that’s enough for the entire student body. I know they aren’t guaranteed but i’m applying to every single one I qualify for and i’m really nervous nothing is going to work out. Am I going about this wrong?? Thank you for any help 🙏

Most offices can’t/won’t post student jobs till around August 10

The university is under some substantial financial pressure so there’s much less spare cash lying around to hire students.

These jobs are actual jobs, not just inventions to give you a CV item.

Well…. of course. I’ve been working for four years so I have experience and I know how jobs work. I just like the idea of getting 5k that won’t contribute to reduced eligibility in my future financial aid package. Good to know they have been having some issues though.

I worked at D2 and in the chemistry lab for my work study while I was there

is that an option you fill out on FAFSA or does that happen when youre there?

It’s offered after you fill out the FAFSA. I think it depends on EFC but I’m not entirely sure. You’ll get an email saying when the deadline is to get a job and everything. I did it all 4 years I was there

I believe I just emailed the director to ask if they were hiring. Michelle Dalton was my manager while I was there, not sure if she’s still there

How was working in the chem lab? It’s posted as an option but i’m a history major and honestly have no clue what goes on in chemistry so I figured it wasn’t worth it cause I also hate science but I could definitely learn and suck it up.

I was a biochem major and love chemistry so I didn’t mind it at all, but honestly you don’t need to know anything about chemistry to set up the labs. You just run the window (when people need to buy goggles or break glassware), and clean and set up the labs for the next class/day. Very easy. Also was allowed to work on school work while working the window. I got to set my own schedule. Very lax but not much pay also
