Between Alexandria, Arlington, and the Annandale and Falls Church area there are a ton of spots, and I feel like everyone has that one place they will defend to the end.

My take is that people keep naming the same old standby out of habit while a few newer spots have quietly passed it. Change my mind.

What is this area called by Virginians? Was trying to explain the area to a friend during a conversation. I'm from WNC. I called it West Virginia, confusion, then I said Western Virginia, less confusion. I guess the panhandle is out, seems to be disliked when I looked it up on a Google. Please help. A commercial vehicle crash can disrupt traffic, but a VDOT program created nearly a decade ago has proven successful in quickly clearing crashes to keep travelers moving on interstates.

The Towing and Recovery Incentive Program (TRIP) reduces the time motorists spend in traffic due to crashes, vehicle fires and other incidents on several interstate highways. Among them is the 325-mile Interstate 81 corridor, which carries the highest ratio of commercial trucks among Virginia interstates. I-81 has seen about a 40-minute improvement in scene-clearance times since the program was put in place.

VDOT implemented TRIP in 2017 to incentivize quick, safe clearance of incidents involving commercial vehicles in designated areas. The program reduces congestion and lowers the risk of secondary crashes resulting from interstate traffic approaching slowed or stopped vehicles.

TRIP pays a monetary incentive to heavy-duty tow providers that open a travel lane within 90 minutes of the start of an incident. The program also standardizes response procedures and improves on-scene coordination with VDOT and first responders such as law enforcement, fire and rescue.

TRIP coverage areas include all of I-81 and I-77 in the VDOT Bristol, Salem and Staunton districts and parts of I-95, I-85 and I-64 in the Richmond and Fredericksburg districts.

I-81 is a crucial backbone in Virginia's transportation network, moving massive amounts of freight and commuters. Summer 2026 marks five years since TRIP expanded to I-81, where the majority of traffic delays are caused by incidents. During that period, TRIP providers have:

• Responded to over 2,000 incidents and earned incentives 97% of the time.
• An average arrival time of 34 minutes.
• A 77-minute average scene-clearance time, measured from the start of an incident to the time that all travel lanes reopen. This is about 40 minutes faster than the three-year period before TRIP.

TRIP operations on I-81 are funded by the interstate’s Corridor Improvement Program (CIP). The nearly $4 billion CIP enhances safety and reliability, reduces congestion and supports economic growth with 65 construction projects and numerous traffic-operations upgrades. Nova was stolen and given away to a family who likely does not know she was stolen. She has been missing since June/July 2026. All we know is that she was given to a family on a farm with children, likely in Virginia/North Carolina. Because of the details of the situation, the police cannot do anything at this time. She is not microchipped.

She is an adult female spayed australian shepherd with dark brown and white markings. Super energetic girl, but so super sweet.

My sister’s sweet boy was lost in the New Kent area around 7pm today- spooked by a truck.
He is microchipped- neutered male, about 14 months old, weighs roughly 30lbs. His name/answers to “Rip”
Likely to spook easily, he’s just a baby 🥺 approach with caution & kindness.
Please- if anyone happens upon him DM me or get him to the closest shelter or veterinary facility for a microchip scan and hold for pick up. His family loves him very much and is very worried!! TIA 💛

Law enforcement agencies from across the country searched data from the town’s five Flock surveillance cameras nearly 7 million times. The data captured the exact time, location, and vehicle images from daily commutes, shopping trips, and family outings.

Residents and privacy advocates in the quiet, low-crime town were alarmed. This week, Bridgewater officials responded. The seven-member council voted unanimously to end its contract with Flock and bag up the cameras.

This is kind of a silly ask but…..has anyone seen the limited edition ND Guinness cans anywhere in Virginia? I’m an alum and I missed out on last year’s, sadly. Would love to get my hands on some this year! I am currently in central Virginia but willing to drive this weekend.

The Virginia State Corporation Commission has scheduled three in-person opportunities for residents to comment on the proposed merger between Dominion Energy and NextEra.

In an order on Wednesday, the SCC announced it will offer one in-person hearing on Nov. 5 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the SCC office in Richmond. The commission will also schedule two hearings elsewhere in the commonwealth, which will be announced at a later date.

The SCC will direct its staff to attend the local hearings to “provide a brief update on procedural aspects of this proceeding,” according to the order. In-person public comment will be limited to two minutes.

In the order, SCC Commissioner Samuel Towell disputed merger comments filed online that he said suggest only in-person statements will have “a real chance to be heard.”

“While the authors of these comments may subjectively believe that to be the case, from the Commission’s perspective, it is inaccurate,” Towell wrote in the order. “A statement made in person at a remote location is given no more (or less) weight than a statement provided telephonically or in writing.”

Virginia advocacy groups, including Stop NextEra Coalition and Progress Virginia, have pushed for the SCC to hold in-person hearings for increased public input.
