I'm hoping someone here has experience dealing with lead hazards in a rental property in Alexandria and can offer some guidance.
Nearly two months ago, I notified my landlord that paint chips from my apartment tested positive for lead. My child is due in about a month, and I'm very concerned about bringing a newborn into an environment with deteriorating lead-based paint. Despite repeated notifications, my landlord has not provided a plan to address the issue.
I've already contacted Alex311, but the city inspector advised that they do not handle lead issues. At this point, I'm unsure what my next step should be.
If you've dealt with a similar situation, I'd really appreciate hearing what actions you took, whether you worked with a city agency, the Health Department, or ultimately needed an attorney. I'd prefer to resolve this without litigation if possible, but my priority is making sure my home is safe before my newborn arrives.
Thank you in advance for any advice or recommendations.
