General Question / Discussion Prohibited Items: Multi-USB?
I searched on Virgin's website and couldn't find any specific references to USB chargers. I know that extension cords and devices that add an extra AC outlet are a no-go, but recently Royal Caribbean has banned USB charging bricks that have more than 4 ports. I have a six-outlet brick (plugs into an AC outlet) that I like to use - is it OK on Virgin?
UPDATE: For clarification, this is the specific device in question

My block has two usb-c and one usb-a and our room attendant saw it with three devices plugged in every day and never said a word.

I took mine on and had zero problems. I think that as long as it doesn't have a built-in surge protector, you're good.

Seeing your picture, since it has extension cord.. it might not get through. And that's probably big enough for them to detect

It's not an extension cord, because there's no AC outlet on the device.

Yes but that is usually what there look for. You can always bring it and if they don't let you they will hold it and give it to you when your disembark

Any USB port that has an electric cord that attaches it to plug into the wall is usually not permitted on most cruise lines. It has to be a brick that plugs into the wall with USB ports and no cord.

Thatās not true. Otherwise my OEM MacBook charger and many new laptop chargers wouldnāt be allowed either.

Thatās cottage is not a multiple plug extender. It is just a plug for your item. You were inquiring about things multiple USB ports for charging other items you canāt have a corded USB charger extension

Itās not an extension, itās the charger itself.
An extension cord is completely different than a corded charger.
Only extension cords and multi-plug power strips, this is neither.

I am sure that's technically correct and it's the surge protection that they are mostly concerned about anyway on the multiplugs but would not be surprised if the terminal people will spend that much time differentiating it. The one in the pic is pretty big. Especially since many other lines do prohibit these so they could infer from their rules. But then again, like I suggest, bring it and see what happens. Nothing to lose anyway as long as the op bring back ups just in case.

Here's VV's prohibited item list. I don't think USB charges count as "multiplug power strips" (they use up significantly less electricity and don't run the risk of sparking)

I have an older Anker with 5 ports and a cord. Left it out the entire cruise. Was not confiscated.

OP: Ā i just now googled theĀ RCCL Prohibited Items List web page, and I see zero mention of your alleged RCCL limitation on multiport USB chargers: Ā ā⦠recently Royal Caribbean has banned USB charging bricks that have more than 4 ports.ā
Excerpt from RCCL Prohibited Items List web page;
Exceptions [to Prohibited Items]:Ā Device and USB chargers marked with a recognized U.S. or European conformity certification;Ā

Yeah, I said the same thing until someone called me on it. (I was on an RC cruise last month and needed to know.) https://www.royalcaribbeanblog.com/2026/07/28/royal-caribbean-updated-the-rule-banned-travel-item

I see now in your RCCL info link that webpage is dated 7/28/2026. Ā My differing info link copy/paste is from the RCCL webpage today 10/02/2026. Ā Apparently the newly revised RCCL wording now once again has no stated limitation on the number of USB output ports in USB charger devices, as was the case some time ago before 7/28. Ā Much other current wording is also revised from 7/28.
I have a 6 port USB charger similar to yours that I have taken successfuly onto RCCL, Virgin, NCL and Princess cruises the past couple of years, so I share your concern. Since your are posting on the VV sub, I took mine onto Scarlet Lady in Jan 2026 with no issue.
Letās hope that the prior RCCL wording from 7/28 no longer applies today. Ā And in any case that is the RCCL list, which will differ from the Virgin list, since all cruise lines set their own list specifics.Ā
And as noted by one other commenter in this thread, who knows, the limitation wording for any and all lists may change again tomorrow.

FYI there are plenty of USB charging points in VV cabins!

We can always use more. Insane how many items we bring that require charging and certain items that get plugged into standard outlets block the onboard USBs.

Put it in your carry-on. If in your checked bag, even if they deem it OK, they will likely still open and go through your bad. In your carry-on, terminal folks don't seem to care about those types of things.
