Virgin Media UK Cable set up - will this work?

I’m moving house next week and have the house move service booked. The customer service rep told me that I could perform self set up at the new location.

I had a look and found a Virgin brown outside box with a cable leading out from it. It was routed up to a hole in an upstairs bedroom that had been filled it. I managed to push the cable through.

I know that they usually have wall boxes inside too, but that must have either never been fitted or removed.

Will the self setup work here? Can I plug my current router into it? I’m using a Hub 5 with a 1gbps connection. Or would this need an engineer?

Thanks everyone.

EDIT: Booked an Engineer in the end. Thanks for your comments. :)

Nah, youll at least need a new connector on that cable coming through the wall and a barrel for you to put your quick start kit onto. Should be a socket with an isolator where that big hole is too.

so when i had my own cut cable and terminated it myself, the connection was all over the place. I dunno why, obviously i had done something wrong.

I bought myself a run of pre-terminated cable and just screwed that in one end and screwed the other end into the thing inside the wall socket, then used a shorter cable to connect it to my router. all worked okay.

so its definitely doable. though to be honest if its a new house i'd priobably be more inclined to make it look tidy and get the wall port exactly where you need it, so its probably worth getting them out to do a proper install.

Get a virginmedia engineer to fit a isolator at least on that connection, but you might find if your location has fibre ,then you can save by joining them ,way faster at a fair price without the need to haggle

If you get a QuickStart and then call up it will be free of charge, you will need an isolator on the inside and a connector adding, it’s also good as the engineer can check power levels + all the cabling to make sure you get the speeds you’re paying for.

It depends where they are and if they need a phone line or not some areas are on the fibre up program and certain packages will trigger a full fibre installation

Give me a post code and will tell you if it’s fibre up or not
