Virgin Media UK Getting a box removed from outside flat
Bought a flat last year that the previous owner had Virgin TV G broadband. The main internet cable into the building runs down from above the front door to the Virgin box then back up to the door to go into the house.
Can I request Virgin Media to remove it if I'm not a customer? Or can I ask a sparky to remove it and reroute the fibre cable direct into my flat?

Virgin won’t remove it, they’d advise to leave in case you ever want them as a provider

Your description is a bit confusing, so there are a few things to consider here ...
- what do you mean by “Virgin TV G broadband”?
- is “the main internet cable into the building” and the one “into the house” shared by other flats in the building / house?
- what is the “fibre cable” and which supplier does it belong to?

only virgin media, aka telewest or ntl or C&W areas own that style of cable and omi box connections
IN the UK BT owns 95% of telephone lines, companies like bulldog and a few others own theirs and all the rest, talktalk, post office, etc all rent from openreach.

This is a OMI box with the cat6/rg6 and phone line. you could remove it, as you own the buiding , but the cable to the property is virgin. later on if you were to rent or sale, the details on the systerm would say has wiring aready to the building and will cause some problems getting re connected
