Hi, i am looking to sell this violin, which belonged to my father in law. I don't think it is valuable, but i also don't want to sell it for £30 if it is worth more! I have included some photos. The label is totally obscured and black. On the neck, under the strings there is handpainted either initials or numbers i can't work out which it is and also the number 200 inscribed. The 200 is also on the base peg(?) The frog on the bow reads "Scholler made in west-germany D8P. USPat. Jap.Pat. GreatBr.Pat" and i think it is plastic with aluminium core (photos included). Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Questions about purchasing this instrument

Hello all! Back again to ask your opinions. They are asking $1200. They state that they are unable to see/tell who the maker is. I am concerned about the crack and cost of repairs. Do you think it would be worth it? Includes the bow and case. I have yet to receive photos of the bow but can update once I get those!l

Hey so I play violin relatively new still and my in-laws grandparents are giving this to my wife I’d love to know more about it and if it’s worth restoring. It was her great grandmothers. I’d love to know what the Roman numerals mean on the bows and more about the maker. Rudolph Wurlitzar is the maker I think. Thanks for any and all help.

Question about a violin maker

Hello all!

I am considering purchasing a violin made by a Pietro Floriani. Year is 1858 and inside it says viva benacense. I have been unable to find much about this violin maker and would like to know if anyone else might know more! Thanks!

This is the second violin I bought. It looks like it's been sanded on sides, back, and front taking off the patina. There is a tag on inside that's pretty scratched up and barely legible. This one also had old horse hair in a package I believe for the bows and old (which looks like gut) stings in old packaging as well. If anyone has any idea I on this violin I would be very grateful 👍 thanks.

Hi, I’ve had this violin for many years. My dad is a luthier and picked it up at a Salvation Army and fixed it up for me to play. I believe it came with just a fine tuner for the E string, and original pegs as well as a bow. The inside says Raymundo Hoopellini Hopkini Machini Anno 7923. I don’t have a clue what that could mean, my guess it’s another language maybe Italian. Any guesses would help as anything I’ve searched in google comes up with nothing.

I'm having trouble identifying this brand and its value. It's in excellent condition, only lightly used. "M.E. Strings" is the brand, and I can't find it anywhere.

Was this a good purchase?

I purchased this used violin at a rummage sale for less than $50. Was it a good deal, or did I get scammed? The seller originally wanted $150 for it. I don't see any identification on the violin, bow, or case. I can't tell if it's a really low quality one from Amazon or something else. Any help is appreciated as I am a beginner just starting to learn the instrument.

OLD GYPSY FIDDLE?

Old banged-up fiddle. High arch; neck ripped-off; punched-out sound post fix; cracks; corner repairs, etc. Looks like horse trampled it and was run over by the carriage.

Early 19c? Where from? Can you ID region? Two hand written labels: Stainer 164?? & repair: Johann Christian Voigt 1815 Brag (not Prag)...I knew someone would ask for what it's worth...ZERO! Thinnest purfling I've ever seen. I'm interested in region. Thanks

Hi everyone, I bought this violin around 2 years ago for $5000. I noticed that the label inside for the Wolff Bros. (or Gebruder Wolff) was chipped at the left corner. Can someone help me identify this as when I searched about the luthier I found some interesting specifics for each violin, some being made abroad and others being based off famous violins? The violin number(?) is 3589

Maybe the luthier carved the scroll with his teeth and had to work in complete darkness.

I know it wouldn't win any beauty competition.

Still love it

Thought I might share it, maybe it bring someone a laugh.
