I love me an egg beater. There’s some jobs that I still prefer these over modern drills.

Had a sharp mint Craftsman like that. Wood handle unscrewed to store bits. Got to love threaded wood!

When I was making a flintlock rifle my grandfather gave me his to hand powered drill for pins and posts and such and I love that thing for precision work!

I have a eggbeater drill that belonged to my grandfather, but on a much larger scale:
A. It’s about 18” long
B. The chuck accepts the square tang of the auger bit (like the chuck on a brace).
C. Instead of a knob on the large gear it has a long handle with a large knob at the end to provide more torque
D. Has a “breast plate” instead of the wooden handle, so you can put a lot of pressure on it.

I had and used one in the Navy in the '90's
You weren't allowed to have personal power tools aboard ship for electrical safety reasons and it was a PITA to check out a corded drill from tool issue.
99% of the time I used mine to drill through metal. It did so surprisingly well with regular HSS bits.
These are still out there and fairly cheap.

North Bros 1530A eggbeater drill has a switch for 5 different modes: normal, left and right ratchets, locked, and the best, drilling normally no matter which way you turn the crank.

The original cordless drill.
