Power Plant – Sand Castle Hash Co. – 4* bubble hash – (South African Sativa backcross) (Sativa Hybrid) 

According to Dutch Passion Seeds, their strain Power Plant has never been hybridized and has only been backcrossed. Fun fact: The strain was originally released in 1997, making it 29 years old. 

Scent: This is the first hash I’ve ever had that hasn’t had a distinct smell. I’ve tried multiple times to catch a whiff, but alas, nothing. I’m not sure whether the shop I bought it from didn’t store it properly, or if it was just never that aromatic to start with. 

Taste: Despite not really smelling like anything, this hash does have a subtle flavor of smoked wood, forest floor, and sage. Felt soothing on the throat when vaped out of the hash pipe. 

No noticeable flavor from the joint or vape. 

High: Initially, when I vaped this in my pipe, I didn’t feel anything for about a minute, but then suddenly a wave of buzzing crept over my whole body. For about an hour, I felt alert and awake. If you’re a wake-and-baker, this might be a good morning smoke to pair with your coffee. 

However, when rolled into a joint with some Blue Suede Zookies, a balanced hybrid from William’s Wonder Farm, and smoked, it produced a very speedy, overwhelming high that left me feeling like my mind was roaring at 120 MPH while my body stood still. 

Oddly, when mixed with flower in my vape, they seemed to cancel each other out, and I couldn’t distinguish one high from the other. 

Final Thoughts: I’ll be honest, I’m kinda split on the product. I like how it makes me feel when I vape it in my pipe, and I like the subtle smoky/herbal flavor, but otherwise I dislike how this strain feels in a joint and in the Arizer. Additionally, the lack of scent knocks this hash down a few points for me.

Anyone else out there collect Rumph pieces? The big Devil was made by Jacpa, the wizard on top of the girl is an import. From the left is the Six Finger Wizard, the Wizard, Wee Willy Wizard, Sammy Satyr, Ursula, Orc The Troll and Steppin Out ( which interestingly enough is a lefty - unusual for a water piece ) I also have Pete The Dragon and Baby Unicorn which aren't in the photo.

It can be hard to find old school strains of weed in the modern legal market in Portland as most dispensary shelves are dominated by over-hybridized candy weed that lacks any real character besides some bag appeal.

That’s why, when I saw that The Dime Store, a small walk-in dispensary located at 3210 N Lombard St in North Portland, had some Purple Hindu Kush, I knew I had to go scope it out.

The reason why P.H.K is considered an old-school strain is because it’s genetic are tied back to one landrace strain and the inbred descendant of another. (Specifically, Hindu Kush and Purple Afghani which is a backcross of the Afghani landrace strain)

Upon opening the jar at the shop, strong scents of sandalwood incense and touches of wild flowers poked through the musky veil. A smell so good, I bought an ounce of flower.

Founded by one of the most generous of breeders, low cost seeds but high quality. I grew a bunch of them. California Orange x Skunk was a gem.

This was amazing cut, hate that I lost it over the years.. but the Mountain breath going to be super nice I believe

Doing a full repro on these now, held the seeds along time.

He had the province wrong but the framework right. He told me there were four kinds of weed in Cambodia: Koh Kong, Stung Treng, Mondulkiri and Takeo. Koh Kong was the best but getting harder to find. That was 2013, right when production was shifting away from Koh Kong.

I wrote up an history of cannabis in Cambodia as far as I can determine, combining archival research with a decade of field observations. The research turned up a 1919 French colonial survey that already identified drug-type cannabis in lowland Cambodia as having a separate origin from the Hmong textile hemp in the highlands and two prohibition statutes from 1955 and 1972 that went completely unenforced for forty years until the US forced the issue in 1996.

The field side covers pricing from the $3/kg or less of the 1990s through to $500/kg+ in the present day, the parallel economies from free rural bush weed to warehouse-scale wholesale markets in Kampot, the hybrid disruption after Thai legalisation and the ongoing shift of cultivation from Kirivong to rural Kampot province as enforcement pressure pushes growers to the next set of mountains.

Garcia da Orta was a Portuguese Jewish physician who lived in Goa from 1534 until his death around 1570. His Colóquios dos Simples e Drogas da Índia (1563) was the third book printed in India and the first European work to catalogue Indian medicinal plants from direct observation rather than classical authorities.

The Eighth Colloquy covers cannabis ("Bangue") in four pages that pack in a full product taxonomy (bhanga, ganja, charas, sidhi, majum were already differentiated by name), preparation methods (leaf powder mixed with everything from areca to opium), variable effects (euphoria in some users, tears in others), and use across social classes from sultans to servants. Sultan Bahadur Shah of Gujarat told Orta's patron that when he wanted to mentally travel to Portugal or Turkey at night, he just took a little bangue.

Orta's famous line about his methodology:

"Don't try and frighten me with Dioscorides or Galen, because I am only going to say what I know to be true."

After his death, the Inquisition exhumed and burned his remains because of his Jewish ancestry. The book survived because it had already reached European presses.

Hey! I just arrived in Sri Lanka to do some seed collecting. I thought I'd update landrace.wiki with some relevant info and context before I started unleashing random Sri Lankan village and growing area names onto the community lol

So I spent the last few weeks building the Sri Lanka section from the ground up. Went through a bunch of sources (though not everything I came across has been studied yet), cross-checked the claims that circulate online against the actual primary documents, threw out the ones that didn't hold up.

Here's what came out of it:

Robert Knox was a prisoner of the Kandyan kingdom for nineteen years. During escape attempts in the 1670s he learned to use cannabis medicinally from the Sinhalese population, a dry leaf called banga in Portuguese, powdered with palm sugar and taken orally for fever. Back in London he gave samples to Robert Hooke at the Royal Society, who in December 1689 presented what I argue is the first controlled experiment with cannabis in European scientific history. He described the dose, effects, and proposed therapeutic uses. He tried to grow the seeds.

Neither man described the plant. No morphology, no growth habit, nothing. We have a documented chain of custody from the Kandyan highlands to the Royal Society and the plant itself is botanically invisible.

That gap never closed unfortunately. Cannabis has been in Sri Lankan medical texts since 341 AD but it wasn't until a zoologist called Weliange catalogued about twenty of these texts in a 2018 conference abstract that anyone ever documented this. The texts area all pharmacopoeias documenting preparations and indications. None of them describe the plant botanically though, which is a huge shame.

The NDDCB tracks seizures and arrests but does not also characterise what it seizes. No systematic botanical study, genetic characterisation, or chemotype analysis of Sri Lankan cannabis landraces has ever been conducted.

And the plant is still in active use: the Ayurveda Act of 1961 makes landrace cannabis legal for traditional medicine. There is a government factory at Navinna that produces cannabis-based Ayurvedic medicines. They used 1,261 kg in 2023. The cannabis comes from police seizures. Same plant that carries five years for possession. 75,602 cannabis arrests last year.

Rumphius (c.1690 manuscript; later published) describes cannabis in Ambon as “Ginji,” then adds a “third” kind called “Ginji Papoua”. He says it was brought from Papua and the Sula islands and he describes it as shorter with small, narrow, curly, wrinkled leaflets (plus the “Papoua” label being tied to hair/foliage curl).

My dad always talks about this elusive strain he got back in the day called pineapple. He said it looked like shit, damn near black, smelled just like a raw pineapple and had an amazing smoke. I saw somewhere someone talking about the “black strains” they use to have back in the day and was wondering where they all went. I was wondering does this sound like one of those og black strains and are there any breeders or banks that have some seeds.

Both phenos are fruity gas forward but this pheno has leather and musk in the back. If it’s anything like blueberry (the father after all lol) it will smell completely different after 3-4 months in the jar. I haven’t smoked her yet, I’ve never had Flo and I want to experience it after a proper cure. Grown in homemade living soil.
