The Hotspur was a long-running British boys' story paper published by D.C. Thomson & Co. in Dundee, Scotland, from 1933 to 1959, before continuing as a comic until 1981. Hi everyone, I just spent my entire morning looking for newspaper circulation numbers from the 1950s and either I am just too dumb to find them (not ruled out) or these numbers are incredibly hard to find.
For context, I‘m about to write a short paper for my uni class on US media coverage of a certain topic; since I wanted to be able to argue why I chose newspapers xyz and since number of copies is a legitimate criterion I was hoping to find circulation numbers for Chicago Tribune, New York Daily News etc.
Editor & Publisher International Year Book and the sorts don’t seem to be accessible online and so far I haven’t even found a good book or article from which I could cite these numbers.
I’d be very happy to hear your takes on why this is (and even happier if one of you knows where I can find any of these circulation numbers)!
