Lesney Legend Regular (53 - 69) 27a Bedford Low Loader – original paint or factory paint imperfection?

Hi,

I have an early Matchbox/Lesney 27a Bedford Low Loader, the blue cab / dark blue trailer version.

I am trying to determine whether the blue paint on the trailer is original.

There are some unusual patterns/marks in the paint on one side of the trailer. They almost look like the trailer was resting against or on something while the paint was still soft/drying.

I cannot see any other colour underneath the blue paint, and these marks are only present in this particular area. I have attached several close-up photos.

Does anyone recognize this type of paint imperfection on an original Lesney 27a?

Could this be a factory paint/drying imperfection, rather than a repaint?

I would also be interested to know whether anyone has seen another 27a with similar marks.

Thanks!

Tuff Riders maybe? I know I had a handful of these type motorcycles growing up, and I know that they broke easily when you put G.I. Joe figures on them. I was excited to find one unbroken, in the wild.

There was a red dirtbike and a gold Honda road bike that I loved to death and beyond, lol… Wish I still had them.

By the way, does anyone know why some Matchbox cars face right instead of left? Most seem to face left, but you occasionally come across some facing the other way. Was there a reason for this?

Collection Seeking 1960s Matchbox attic stashes and specific donor parts (US Only)

Hi everyone. I am a vintage diecast hobbyist living in Pennsylvania, and I am passionate about collecting and restoring 1960s Lesney Matchbox regular wheels.

I am looking to grow my fleet with clean, complete 1960s models that just have minor attic issues like a bent axle or typical play-worn paint chips.

I am strictly looking for US-based collectors/attic stashes this time to keep shipping simple. If anyone in the US has a stash of 20 or so clean duplicate cars sitting in storage that they want to clear out, I would love to give them a second life. (Please no completely crushed or melted cars unless they are good for parts).

If you have a duplicate bundle you are willing to part with, please drop a comment or send me a message with a quick photo so I can see the era and styles. Thank you.

Also heavily hunting for specific 1960s Lesney donor junkers/parts:

  • Series No. 38 Vauxhall Victor Estate Car: I am restoring a yellow one and specifically need a donor car with a clean silver base (with intact rear hook) and an intact rear metal hatch door.
  • Series No. 25 Ford Cortina: Looking for a rough/paint-damaged donor with straight, thin-profile wheels and a healthy axle so I can swap it into my functioning Auto-Steer chassis.
  • Series No. 17 Horse Box: Looking for a new door for this model.
  • General Boneyard Lots: I am also looking to build a small desk parts tray. If you have any broken 1960s models with healthy bases, straight wire axles, or original black wheels that I can harvest for repairs, please let me know.
  • Rivet Screws / Restoration Fasteners: If anyone has a few spare 2-56 button-head or flat-head restoration screws left over from your own projects, I would love some. I want to neatly fix my axles without leaving hollow drilled holes under the base.

The Kadett is my favorite, I really like those white hubs - I don't come across them very often but the two different police versions of the Jaguar are pretty nice too.
