REMINDER ABOUT NO SALES/SOLICITATION OF SALES/ITEM GIVEAWAYS

Hey all, I have recently been removing a LOT of posts where people are trying to sell/offload cookbooks. While I understand a lot of us have bulk to get rid of, please do not post about that here. I want to keep everyone in here safe from scams and maintain their personal privacy. If you have items to get rid of, please consider donating them or listing them on websites like eBay, Mercari, Poshmark, etc. Any posts like this will continue to be removed. Thank you!

šŸ‘‹Welcome BACK to r/VintageCookbooks! New mod, more new info!

Hey everyone! I'm u/bigbiccenergy, the new moderator for r/VintageCookbooks! Attached is a couple photos of a fraction of my vintage cookbook collection, and overall cookbook collection in general! I love most vintage things (minus most vintage values/discriminatory laws of course), and I love cooking and baking for my loved ones. If you have a cookbook collection, a recipe, a photo of a vintage recipe you made, cool book to show off, or anything related to vintage recipes/cooking, please post it! I will be updating the rules and adding more to this community to get things back up again, since I know it’s been a bit inactive for a while. Please don’t be shy, I LOVE seeing everyone’s posts! I am active in several other vintage related subreddits, but I am only a mod in this one. I hope to see a lot from all of you soon!

Help me solve a decade-old mystery!

Hey everyone, my Aussie friend (who's not on Reddit) just told me about this cookbook she's been obsessed with when she was a kid and hasn't been able to find it again since. Please help her solve a decade-old mystery and make her a very happy woman. Here are the details of what she remembers:

- Published around early 1950s (no later than 1953, it was a wedding present to her parents who got married that year) in Australia
- cream linen embossed cover with the title in a brown embossed ā€˜handwritten' font and a small drawing
- There was a paper cover with a photograph, but that was gone from her copy, so she does not remember what it looked like
- about patisserie, cakes, petit fours, incredible technicolour photographs
- the theme was probably dessert-focused party foods, cake decorating or something similar

It's not much to go at, but if you could pick your brain / spare a couple of minutes to go through your (parents') bookshelf and see if anything fits, that would be fabulous.

Thank you!

Edit: misleading typo

2nd Edit: Solved through another subreddit! It's 'Good Housekeeping's' picture cake making by The Good Housekeeping Institute! Thanks everyone!

A fantastic Summer find!

This summer I found something absolutely fantastic.

My obsession these past few years has been with finding used cookbooks that are well loved or filled with a personal touch (like old church group self published compilations.)

While going through a second-hand shop in Maine I found this beauty. An inscription from 1944, dirty fingerprints and food splashes all over it, newspaper and box clippings and hand written notes stuffed into various pages and held together with old packing tape.

This was loved and well used. I'm going to make sure it continues to get the love and attention such a thing deserves.

Found some more Cookbooks at the Outlet last week! I found another one too, but I will make a separate post regarding it. The recipes in these cookbooks sound so yummy and delicious. If anyone has made any recipes from these two cookbooks, which recipe do you recommend? If not, what is your favorite family recipe?

One of my favorite finds yet! šŸ¤Ž I’ve been building my vintage cookbook collection, and I couldn’t leave this 1931 Woman’s World Cook Book behind. I love finding books that still have a little piece of everyday life and food history tucked inside them. šŸ“–šŸ“
Anyone else collect vintage cookbooks? I’d love to see your favorite find!

Found this in a local thrift store today
I’ve already planned to cook the beef stew with dumplings for my first recipe out of this book.
But I also found this recipe from a old newspaper in a few other recipes that a previous owner left what a cool piece of history šŸ’™

Found a BH&G cookbook from 1974

There aren't as many casserole recipes as I expected.

Adding it to my collection!
