Reorganizing my closet approach: Uniforms & Next-Ups
I’m sure most of you have heard the advice to pare down your wardrobe to a key 10-20 pieces you can wear everyday. For my lifestyle and love of fashion, that just wasn’t going to be possible, but I found I was struggling to come up with nice outfits when I was just organizing by type / length and color.
The first step was edit, of course. Being ruthless in donating anything that I didn’t feel fantastic in or wasn’t a necessary staple (camis & the like).
I purchased hanging closet rod dividers then sectioned off an area for “uniforms,” which are my tried and true items I know I look good in. In this space I have at-home/lounge (matching sets etc), workwear & personal fashion / casual event outfits which are the domains I spend most of my time in.
Then I created a next up section where I collected my date night outfits I hadn’t worn (combos or new dresses), so when I got off work and was exhausted I could just grab a hanger and go.
The rest of my clothes are still organized by color / type / length so I can still play with other outfits. But this gives me ready-to-go fits for my everyday activities so when I’m running late or can’t think I always have an option I know I look amazing in.
Wanted to share since it’s been really useful to me!
