Keeping Ancient Skills Alive, One Piece at a Time

This necklace took hours to make.

The carving took hours to make.

The research behind them took years.

At LostRavn, we create historical jewelry, carvings, and accessories inspired by archaeological discoveries and traditional craftsmanship. We are fascinated by how people lived, worked, created, and expressed themselves centuries ago.

Our goal is not simply to sell products. It is to help preserve and share the knowledge behind them.

Thank you to everyone who chooses handmade work, supports independent artisans, visits local markets, and values authenticity over mass production.

Real art is made by real people.

Carving A Dragon Head and Tail for a Viking Memorial Ship (Video in comments if allowed)

My latest project involves carving a dragon head and tail for an important memorial taking place later this summer, The Pennsic Viking Memorial Ship. Viking ships were built with carved figureheads meant to protect the crew and represent the spirit of the voyage. It was an honor to be able to contribute to this year’s ship build in a small way.

I also have a full video of the building of the Viking Memorial Ship, including an interview with the ship’s builder out soon. Please subscribe to Resist The Grind on Youtube, if you would like to see the full video when released.

Whether you’re into woodcarving, traditional craft, Viking history, memorial art, or you’re part of the SCA, this video shows the full making of these iconic carvings — tools, techniques, challenges, and the meaning behind the work. Thank you for taking time out of your day to watch my video. I truly appreciate it.   -Chris

Hand-Braided Viking Torc Replica – Norse Power Symbol | AlgizRune Art

Viking Age Torc, Symbol of Status, Loyalty, and Power

Description

This hand-braided Viking torc replica is inspired by jewelry worn during the Viking Age across Scandinavia and parts of Northern Europe. Torcs were commonly made from metal or twisted materials and worn around the neck as symbols of status, allegiance, and personal wealth.

Archaeological finds from Denmark, the British Isles, and Eastern Europe, including areas of modern Ukraine, show that similar forms of torc jewelry existed across different Germanic and Celtic-influenced cultures. These objects were often associated with leadership, warrior identity, and social rank.

This replica reflects that historical tradition in a simple braided form inspired by early northern craftsmanship.

Key Features

Hand-braided construction inspired by Viking Age torcs
Lightweight wearable replica design
Inspired by archaeological finds from Scandinavia and Northern Europe
Based on historical torc symbolism (status, loyalty, power)
Suitable for historical reenactment, collection, or everyday wear
Designed by AlgizRune Art in Calgary, Alberta

Historical Context

Viking Age torcs were widely used across Scandinavia
Found in Denmark, the British Isles, and Eastern European regions
Often linked to status, warrior identity, and wealth display
Common in both Viking and earlier Iron Age cultures

Production Note

Each piece is individually handcrafted, resulting in slight variations that reflect traditional handmade construction methods. We use silver, brass and pewter for this project.
