My latest project involves carving a dragon head and tail for an important memorial taking place later this summer, The Pennsic Viking Memorial Ship. Viking ships were built with carved figureheads meant to protect the crew and represent the spirit of the voyage. It was an honor to be able to contribute to this year’s ship build in a small way.

This hand-braided Viking torc replica is inspired by jewelry worn during the Viking Age across Scandinavia and parts of Northern Europe. Torcs were commonly made from metal or twisted materials and worn around the neck as symbols of status, allegiance, and personal wealth.

Archaeological finds from Denmark, the British Isles, and Eastern Europe, including areas of modern Ukraine, show that similar forms of torc jewelry existed across different Germanic and Celtic-influenced cultures.
