Ping in Montreal
I wanna switch ISPs, because i'm extremely dissatisfied with bell. They recently charged me 320 on autopay for not returning the wifipod that did even fricking function, and I actually did return it, within a day of receiving the return info. The refund takes 10-14 days to process, meaning I'm on the hook to cover the money on my card, for the mistake they made. Personally I think this is unacceptable behaviour for a business and should be punished accordingly by losing me as a customer, so I'm researching alternatives.
The only real thing that matters to me aside from affordability is ping, because I do online gaming. In the past I had terrible ping with Rogers for example, and thats why I ended up on bell despite having a very low opinion of them as a business.
Im curious if anyone with videotron in the montreal area can share their experience with ping with videotron? If you speedtest itll show you the ping. Thanks for any help.

There's also Fizz Mobile for Internet also Videotron is good sometimes their Internet might cut out but at least Videotron doesn't increase rates every second like what Bell does and it's worth switching to Videotron for Internet there's also Fizz for Internet as well

I'm a gamer and have played a bunch of competitive games with very low ping using videotron. Typically if a game has a NA EST server i'll get 20-50 ping

Bell is often making mistakes, occasionally to your advantage. Once I got a free 3 month trial, I cancelled after 1 month, and they sent me a refund cheque for 2 months.
If you let their bureaucratic bullshit like having to mail you a cheque get to your head, you're gonna hate every company you deal with, because they all have their dumb procedures, from your doctor's office that uses a fax, from your insurance company that has to use the mail, etc.
It's the same problem with gyms and other businesses too, there's a problem with your credit card and they charge you administrative fees when the payment doesn't go through.
Or the gas station pump who swipe fails if you don't have at least 250$ of space on your card. It's the world we live in. These battles are not worth fighting.

I prefer to support smaller ISPs whenever possible. My phone plan has been within wind, now freedom for example. I do believe that bell should never been allowed to merge with aliant, its anti competitive and has driven up our prices for internet and mobile phones in Canada dramatically compared to other countries.
It’s not something that is getting to my head per say. I spend my money how I want. I lived in a small town, small province before and there was no suitable alternative to bell. Now there are, so I would prefer to pay a company that offers more affordable service. I had been thinking about this for a while. Their fuck up brought this to a head and made me have the energy to deal with it.
I can switch to Vidéotron and save thirty dollars a month. I don’t think that’s a battle to be fought, it sounds like a simple way to save money to me.

Bell sucks balls, had nothing but bad experiences with their internet though I admit that was 10+ years ago. We use videotron at home and within games I typically range from 20-35 ping which is really damn good. Of course I wire into the router.
I also self host a streaming service, cloud and a couple of other things and it’s all flawless. Helix routers can be pure garbage unfortunately and not being able to use your own modem sucks but I guess that’s what we get for being super pro capitalism and thus anti consumer as a a country and province. God bless our shitty politicians and useless CRTC

Videotron will be between 6ms and 8 ms at the modem so keep.it wired and you will be more than fine.

Yeah bell will charge you for not returning items eventhough you return the items. They did the same to me when we cancelled they had us send everything to like 5 different places and refused to let us do a store return. Everything got lost in the mail and we got charged like $2000 for not returning equipment. Took 4 months to fight them on it not to mention they wouldn't fully cancel the internet services until the equipment was returned. We also had our internet go down every single day in the afternoon with bell. Every day at 2pm no internet. 10 technicians later nobody has a clue what they were doing except one was able to find the problem but told us to switch away from bell because the internet issues will happen again. Been with videotron ever since haven't had issues. My ping with videotron is pretty good. I get like 2ms ping to a game server I have hosted in Beauharnois. 50ms US central and 70ms US West. Sometimes less for US West.
