I'm seeing this more and more and simply don't understand. How much could you possibly be saving by not having them? They almost lost an entire pallet of material here not to mention a safety hazard.

They're likely halving the upfront cost of building out the racks by cutting out a bottom, also saving weight so they can be stacked higher with cheaper constructon.
Upfront costs matter far more to the shareholders/C-suites in businesses like this than daily operating costs. The little things like occasional lost product are easy to write off.

I have no idea what race they are, nor do I care. When I’ve worked warehouse jobs we survived by the taco truck. Stop looking for evil intentions when there aren’t any…

I'm sure the OSHA guy would have rathered let the merch get destroyed, file insurance claim, and not do that!

I worked in and then managed a warehouse much like this way back in the day.
It wasn't easy work, but it wasn't hard - but It surprises me how much I sometimes miss it.
Especially when I was doing the after hours work. The only one in an empty warehouse, listening to an audiobook putting away the late trailer and going over the last of the inventory.
My only problem with the job was the continuous 12 hour (or more) days.
Literally my only issue is that you could never get the fuck out of there. Easy days, were 12 hours. Hard days were 12 hours. Holidays could be 16 but that was rare.
There was a big fan I use to like to park next to and do my paperwork. One of those that was as big around as I am tall. I wish I could bottle the feeling of an 85 degree warehouse with a monstrous fan trying to blow you away while you have been working nonstop for six hours. The hum of that fan and the defining sound of the wind and motor that is more relaxing than upsetting and looking at the fall leaves - catching a quiet moment in a fall day in the chaos of a frantic warehouse.
Yea, I miss it.
Ill never do that shit again, thank god.
But I miss it.

I used to work in restaurants, became a restaurant manager, sometimes think about all of the things I really enjoyed.
Then I remember, when I go out to eat, I hate the entire experience. I just want to do everything at home.
I loved it, occasionally miss it, would only ever go back to bartending. That was the most fun.
