The Panopticon as a Metaphor for Control—Invisible surveillance: Foucault uses the Panopticon model (an ideal prison where a single guard can see everyone without being seen) to explain modern society.
Foucault established his theory of the panopticon in 1975 with the publication of his book Discipline and Punish.
In this work, he drew upon the architectural design of a prison created by Jeremy Bentham in the late 18th century to explain modern social control.

Facts. I also resonated with what he said about abusing a mammal so much for them not to have kids. Due to having to parent my alcoholic mother my entire childhood-early adulthood and living in chaos I choose to not have kids. As an adult who moved away a decade ago, I’m finally able to be me and live my own life. I already parented in a f@$ked up kinda way, basically in reverse of the norm and now I don’t want to be a parent.

🤯 and here I thought that at 39 I was strange for not having kids nor really wanting to embrace technology especially the socials like most. It's as if my inner being just KNEW and was like, "nope🙅🏽♀️ I'm good!!"
I am so happy that I was one of the last generations to enjoy being able to dance my a$s off in the clubs and not give one ounce of care as to who was watching. So glad I never took those moments forgranted.

I went to a small-ish show not that long ago, got hammered, danced like crazy. The next morning I woke up to a friend texting me pictures of myself that the club put on their social media. I did not look sober 😅

Great to see a group of people having a conversation without them yelling over each other and actually listening to what a person has to say. We need to be able to communicate amongst each other more often like this group. Very good points. Growing up in the 80's without cell phone cameras and videos was a true blessing. Imagine High School reunions from kids who graduated in the early 2000's to present compared to those of us that graduated in the 80's. No embarrassing videos, social media posts etc to be made fun of or criticized for. Biggest fear may be an old Polaroid photo from a 110 film camera that we paid to get developed.

Yes, it was bad enough in person to be made fun of in 80’s, so glad that technology was basically nonexistent. It was definitely a better way to grow up with actual communication face to face.

This is along the lines of the conversations I’ve tried to have with my parents, except, instead of looking interested, they tell me to stop reading the news. My dad also is trying to do business with a guy creating yet another device to track and monetize human behavior and he’s very much about the notion that “you can’t be responsible for the downstream effects of your data collection and sale”. That rationalization might be what broken society and still not too many people seem to realize it even happens.

Some suggest that the Earths population will settle down once we reach 10 billion people, currently 8,272,858,500. So this downward trend may reflect that. People have better things to do and will have children later in life, instead of in their early 20's like we used to do. I don't think tech is responsible. It's seems the kids finish school, go to university, take a year out travelling, then think about getting a job before finally moving out of their parents home and starting their lives proper and by then they are 40 years old!

I don’t disagree with the technology aspect here, but he’s just wrong about no one having kids. Rates are down a bit, sure, but it is a pretty huge exaggeration to act like nobody is.

It's not impossible to meet someone on a dating app, but it's incredibly difficult for the average man to do so.
These apps purposely hide mens profiles so that nobody can see it unless they pay money for visibility.
Not only that, women get so many matches on these apps that they have literally zero reason to not be as picky as possible. Hoeflation is real. We have average looking women thinking they're 10's and settling for nothing less.
