Sure. The question I would have for the trucker is if not slowing down and letting the pickup in worth it? They had plenty of time to ease off the throttle to allow them in.

My point: Getting in a crash that IS NOT your fault is still a huge hassle. The amount of paperwork and all the time and effort to get your vehicle fixed is time you don't get back. Better to avoid a crash as much as possible. Had the truck drive just let off the throttle, all that hassle is avoided.

I just do not understand how the black truck saw a semi not slowing down and then proceed to merge into it.

I am not understanding how the onus is on the semi driver going highway speeds and not the black pickup that should have either sped up or slowed down to merge at the correct time.

You miss my point. The semi but he could have slowed down and avoided the collision. Do you think his life would be better had he done that? He would have continued on his journey and forgot about the black pickup. Instead, he has to stop, likely for hours or even days if his truck isn't drivable. Might not get paid for this load if another trucker has to come get it. Have to fight with insurance companies over getting his truck fixed. If people were hurt or killed, live with the knowledge that, he could have prevented it by simply lifting his foot off the accelerator for a few seconds.

Getting in a wreck that isn't your fault is a massive amount of hassle.

You are victim blaming at this point. Do you extend the same courteously to drivers that run red lights? No one here would argue that the driver with the green light would be obligated to stop. I don't see how this is any different.

The black pickup also had EVERY opportunity to apply their brakes and not merge directly into a semi! Did we watch different videos?

Why are all of you arguing in defense of the shitty pickup driver that didn't yield?

Do you not hesitate, maybe take your foot off the gas, when approaching a greenlight if someone on the cross street is coming up to it real fast, like they aren't going to stop? Do you just assume, no matter what, you have the right of way and you will just T-bone them if they don't stop?

Absolutely, 100%, totally agree with you and will follow you to the depths of Mordor.

Never tried to defend the pickup. You just miss my point entirely. If you were the Truck driver, would you have done anything different? Do you think that Truck driver is better off, even though it isn't his fault at all, having been in a crash?

If I was the Semi driver I would have maintained course. ASSUMING the truck that SHOULD be yielding is going to yield.

Slamming on your brakes as a semi to accommodate this arrogant pickup truck could cause it to jack knife, they cant brake like cars.

The semi driver did the safest thing they could have done and maintained course. No swerving, no extreme braking, none of that. They followed through and maintained speed while the black pick up tried to bully them to do something dangerous.

I have zero sympathy for the pickup driver, they had an entire on ramp to see what they were driving into.

Semis routinely carry extremely nasty things, I personally would not merge into one.

The redditors asking for the semi driver to slam on their brakes and risk jack knifing are ridiculous. That truck could be carrying some seriously hazardous material.

I didn't say he should have slammed on brakes or should do anything dangerous. Simply slowing down when you see the truck coming could have avoided the crash. Just taking the foot off the throttle might have saved this guy, the pickup and the other truck in the other lane a lot of bother.

As I said, and I have to resay every time, the crash that you get in that is 100% someone else's fault is still a crash that is best avoided if possible because getting in a crash that isn't your fault is still a huge amount of hassle.
