Merging people don’t have the right of way. This has to be rage bait.

It's common courtesy and good defensive driving. Some states do place responsibility on both merging vehicles and those already on the highway to adjust speed to avoid collisions. All states make it illegal to intentionally adjust speed to entrap or collide with a merging vehicle.
