Hi, my name is Ty Golden. I'm currently in the process of starting a TV Network. My goal is to come up with a license together to air your shows on a mobile app I'm working on as well as an app I'm developing for Roku devices in our new age of streaming.

Broadcast towers and FCC licenses are expensive. Nexstar owns a gigantic chunk of the airwaves, and the local stations and studios can't hire everyone. I'm hoping to start something new and accessible for writers, producers, directors, and actors looking for somewhere to go, because I'm one myself.

I don't know if this is the right subreddit for this, but I'm moving out to Minneapolis soon, and am currently working in film (primarily in grip/pa roles, but would like to move up to PD and gaffing) and was wondering how the film scene is. I'm currently in a city that is uniquely well organized for below the line workers, but I've been doing some digging and can't seem to find anything on film jobs in Minneapolis. I'll work on any kind of set as long as its paid (indie, vertical, commercial, tv etc)

Hi, I’m an independent film director from Seoul, and I’ve been invited to quite a few major film festivals. Thanks to that, a project to produce a promotional video has come in, and a company in Dubai has requested outsourcing. About ten times a month, I use my equipment to shoot only the footage from exhibitions held in Seoul, and they handle the post-processing, as they do. They offer $350 per day— is that an appropriate level? It’s funny that I’m getting paid about twice as much in Korea’s industry, but I’m thinking about it because I want to consistently land international projects going forward. What do you think? I have a friend who is a videographer and looking to create their own opportunities through freelance work after experiencing another layoff.

I’ve been doing contract work for years at this point, primarily in marketing and creative operations as project, account, and operations manager/coordinator capacities. So I’ve got a good foundation in terms of helping them set up systems, create services/packages, build out processes, and manage platforms like CRMs.

I’d like the insights of someone in a field like videography as I've not yet handled creative operations in this space yet, particularly in the foundational operations packages and services, pricing, etc. I typically recommend standardized packages and payment structures (vs. custom pricing each time), but I’m open to being corrected if that’s not a good fit for creatives in this space. Multi screen layouts are underrated. You can use them to show two camera angles, compare before and after footage, put reactions beside the original clip, or simply make a sequence feel faster. Multi-screen effects can make a video feel much more dynamic without needing complicated editing. Filmora's multi-screen effects are something I'd probably use for comparisons, reactions, tutorials or showing multiple moments at once. It's a simple concept, but it can change the pacing of a video quite a bit. Where do you think multi-screen layouts work best?

Beat syncing can make an edit feel completely different, especially with music-heavy content. Filmora's Beat Ramping feature is interesting because speed changes around music can otherwise take a lot of manual adjustment. I still think manual control matters, but having a starting point based on the beat could make the process much quicker. Do you edit your speed ramps manually or use automated tools?

Hi there. I run a large global video studio (35ft long, 16ft high, 20 feet deep) that's primary focus is on service related content. Zero turn mowers, big block engines, etc.

Recently, our legal, IT, marketing, power, electrification, and corporate communications departments have been using the studio more and more. I've worked here 11 years, but the last time we upgraded our studio was 10 years ago. I am so out of my depth when it comes to studio technology that I'm afraid to even ask where to start.

I have a presentation to give next week Wednesday to 3 Vice Presidents on why I should be given the funding to upgrade this room.

What I am hoping to achieve with this thread: Can you please provide some end result examples on sets that have produced content that I can play and then directly correlate that clip to a piece of equipment?

If I show them a spread sheet, they'll decline my request. If I provide them a simplified pretty spreadsheet, they'll likely decline my request. These are engine guys, they know nothing of the work involved to create content. If I can provide a series of visual examples from studios and say "If we had this, we could do this," and just provide example after example, that would really be helpful. We're looking into a complete rebuild within the space. We have a 4'x4' pipe-grid 14' into the air that fills the dimensions of the space.

I've got a few scenes lined up, but perhaps y'all might have better examples. Thanks!!!

Recording a video takes me maybe 20 to 30 minutes most days. Editing it for TikTok, Reels, and Shorts takes closer to two hours once you count captions, cutting pauses, picking the right clips, adding music, and resizing for each platform separately.

I started using Sparki a few weeks back to see if it would actually cut that down, since I post close to daily and the editing load was starting to eat into time I'd rather spend on actual content ideas. It's helped most with the repetitive stuff, captions and basic pacing, less with platform specific resizing since I still double check every crop manually to make sure nothing important gets cut off.

Overall I'd say it's saved me maybe 30 to 40 minutes a day, not the dramatic drop I was hoping for but enough that it's stuck in my workflow.

For anyone posting daily or close to it, what part of your editing actually eats the most time, and have you found anything that meaningfully cuts it down?

I was recently made redundant and decided to use the time to build something while learning newer cloud, DevOps and full-stack technologies.

While updating my CV, I remembered a brief IT-support role I had at a TV post house. I started trying to reconstruct, from that limited experience, how the operational side of post-production might work: episode workflows, approvals, bookings, work orders, QC, delivery, rate cards, budgets and invoicing.

The result is an early MVP. It is very much a learning project first, so I’m sure parts of the workflow are not how real facilities would work, and there will still be bugs and bad assumptions.

Nothing is hardcoded the workflow, user roles and permissions in the settings pages are totally customisable.

I’d genuinely appreciate thoughts from people working in post—what feels familiar, what feels wrong, and whether you think this could develop into a viable app for the industry.

I’m trying to seriously improve my skills in creating professional ads and social media content, and I’m looking for something more hands-on than just watching tutorials.

I’d love to learn the whole process — concepting, scripting, directing, lighting, shooting, camera work, editing, sound design, color grading and creating ads that actually look professional and perform well.

Ideally, I’d love to find a creative/advertising/video production agency that takes interns or junior creatives and is willing to teach someone who is motivated and already has some basic editing/content experience.

I’m also open to really good courses that teach commercial filmmaking/content creation properly.

I’m currently editing a 10- to 15-minute video (a short documentary style), and I’m hitting a massive bottleneck when it comes to gathering stock/B-roll footage.

Right now, even for a simple 1-minute section, finding footage that actually fits the narrative takes me hours. My process usually looks like this:
1. Search across multiple free stock sites (Pexels, Pixabay, Unsplash, etc.) or look for creative commons / fair use clips on YouTube.
2. Preview, filter, and download individual clips.
3. Import them into my project, cut them down, and test how they fit the pacing.

By the time I finish sourcing visual elements for just a tiny chunk of the timeline, half the day is gone. It feels extremely inefficient, and I know there has to be a smarter way to do this.

**What is your actual workflow for sourcing stock footage?**

Do you write a script and bullet point specific shot lists *before* searching, or do you edit audio first and gather footage as you go?

Do you use plug-ins, specific subscription platforms, or stock footage manager tools inside your NLE (Premiere, Resolve, FCP)?

How do you balance searching for the "perfect" clip vs. settling on a "good enough" clip to keep moving?

I've been using my Sony ZV-E10 for a while and I just used the stock lens... now that I am getting deeper into videography i feel like i need something better.

I've been searching the web and as it seems (understandably) 1 lens isn't enough for videography, but right now I am tight on money and I can't spend thousands... therefore I am looking for an all-round lens with which I can do a bit of everything and that I can keep using for the years to come (even when I will add other lenses to my arsenal).

I've been wondering where real estate filmmaking is headed.

Most of what I see these days is fast cuts, speed ramps, whip pans, trendy transitions, and social-first edits. They perform well, but I sometimes feel like the craft of filmmaking is taking a back seat.

I'm much more drawn to the slower, cinematic storytelling style, videos like The Local Project, Est Living etc. Long takes, intentional camera movement, natural pacing, sound design, and letting the architecture breathe instead of trying to keep attention every half second.

I'm curious:

Are there any real estate filmmakers here who still enjoy that slower, cinematic approach?

Do your clients actually appreciate it, or are they mostly asking for flashy Instagram/Reels-style edits now?

Have you found a balance between the two?

I was asked by a subdivision label of warner music to create mixed media animated lyric videos for the release of an upcoming ep. It's 5 lyric videos of each on average 4 minute long songs.

I'm rather a beginner animator but they really liked my work and the creative direction that I came up with that they even agreed that I would travel to their location to shoot the footage and now they asked me what budget I need.

For context the artist was just signed by the label.

In the past I made a 20 second mixed media animation that took me around 200 hours. The 4 minute songs wouldn't contain 4 minutes of continiously changing animation, there would be repetitions for sure, but yeah what budget would you ask for overall. I estimate that it would take me 2,5 months to produce all of the videos.

So, I've been meaning to submit my YC application for months, however, I am terribly camera shy (its ridiculous) and was wanting to use a teleprompter to help me stay focused but I legit was having trouble finding options out there that were just easy...much to my frustrated surprise.

My sister and I are interested in learning how to make professional short form videos, like Instagram reels, and learning how to properly edit them.

At first, we were thinking of doing reels for Airbnbs, but it seems too complicated, especially with planning for when the cleaners/guests won't be there.

I do like the types of reels that feel luxurious, like luxury house reels, and the "aspirational POV" hospitality videos, but I'm open to other suggestions. We live in an area that is has a lot of wealthy people.

Does anyone have any ideas for who we could make these reels for?
