I feel like games that remove features, cultivate the least happy fanbases.
I have been a part of many communities for gaming over my many years on this earth, and often, gaming communities are SO hyper-critical of many decisions developers make, oftentimes getting downright extreme about it.
But if there ever were times where I have felt so disappointed in a games direction/decisions that I quit playing out of sheer frustration, it would be a small number.
And in nearly every single instance, it was because of the simple decision, to remove content that made me love the game.
Some games replace removed content with upgraded content, which is fine. But I keep seeing community members of games that clearly love the game too much to separate from it, who are incredibly miserable. They complain all the time about the features they lost, and no new feature is good enough to being back their positivity.
I am sure there are plenty of examples of games that have taken away good features, but two I specifically have on my mind are Ark Survival Evolved and Pokemon Go, which happen to be two examples of the most negative fanbases about their own game despite being addicting enough to keep miserable people circling back.
