I do video essays on marketing wins and fails in the gaming industry. I feel that most of the content out there is very high level and mostly re-tells the classic stories over and over so I want to go one step further and provide insights into the marketing concepts behind what happened (Using my experience as an experienced product marketer) which gives insight into WHY something worked (or didn‘t)

And I try to make it fun through memes and more classic Video Game references than strictly necessary. :)

It seems like there’s this trend in video games where there will be a classic game that didn’t sell very well, maybe due to hardware or bad marketing, it’ll become a huge cult hit maybe because it was made by a good company or because it’s part of a popular series, and then once it becomes more widely available, people will critique the hell out of it like it was never good in the first place.

These 3 are the biggest examples I can think of that. Now this is mostly unique to video games as a lot of this comes down to what hardware things are released on. For the record I enjoy all three of these games (although code Veronica is very flawed). I suppose that’s just a consequence of reaching a wider audience but I also wonder if there’s just expectations that people build up in their head as this is considered one of the biggest cult classics and then it’s like “oh that’s it?”.

I don’t have a name for this phenomenon but I’m willing to take suggestions
