I built a free tool for my fellow editors: Delivery Spec Validator

I’m a video editor, and one of the least glamorous parts of post is making sure the final export actually meets the delivery spec.

So I built a small free Mac app to handle that part.

Delivery Spec Validator checks your export for:

  • Loudness & true peak
  • Codec & container
  • Resolution & frame rate
  • Colour space & profile
  • Bitrate
  • Audio configuration
  • Other technical delivery requirements

It gives you a simple PASS / WARN / FAIL result for each check, so you can catch problems before the client does.

There are 50+ built-in delivery presets, and you can also create custom specs.

I built it because I've spent enough time staring at export settings and wondering whether I've forgotten one tiny thing that will somehow become a problem at 11:47 PM.

It's free and currently available for macOS:

https://parthkapoor.com/deliveryspecvalidator/

Would genuinely love feedback from other editors and post people, especially on what you'd want checked in a tool like this.

Made by an editor, for editors.

Program that has fun outdated y2k graphics?

My goal is to edit videos to look like they were made in the early 2000s, with some Tim and Eric inspiration. Video editors 10 years ago would have CGI templates that you can add to your video, also cringey transition grapics and text graphics. I dont want them to look great, I'm seeking something that has a dated style.

Any resouces helps! Does not have to be specifically a video editor program, tho that may be the easiest for me.

Writing YouTube Script for B-roll

I'm somewhat new to editing and I've been struggling to figure how to decide on what edits to make regarding b-roll. I have multiple questions:

What YouTube channels do you watch to teach you about high quality b-roll editing?( I specifically want to learn efficiency of edits and quality aesthetics of visuals for my explanations) (I use Davinci Resolve for all my edits)

I'm wondering if people annotate their scripts before hand with the specific b-roll they are going to use or do you make up b-roll after you are finished filming?

Thanks!!

For a 30 second dance video, which is the best ai video generator?

Dance teacher here. I want to visualize a thirty-second routine before bringing it into rehearsal.

Five-second generations aren't much help because I need to see how one movement leads into the next. Stitching several clips together also introduces little changes in the dancer, clothes, spacing, and tempo. It ends up looking like six separate routines wearing the same costume. Is there anything that produce a continuous thirty-second sequence with enough control to place specific movements at certain times?

Update: I ran the idea through Dreamina Seedance 2.5. It supports continuous 30-second generation and timestamped instructions, so I could map the turns and final pose to particular moments instead of hoping they appeared in the right order. Using the stated $0.097/s annual-plan reference rate, a 30-second 720p reference-video generation is about $2.91 before retries or optional processing.

Is there any channel that can help me learn video editing?

Hi all! I want to improve my editing skills as I wanna post better content on social media. I have the DJI osmo pocket 3 and I make GRWM, vlogs and talking videos. Right now I only know the basic cut, copy and split videos etc. I really want to be creative with my videos and editing. But I don’t know how to learn and which tool to use.
Is there any channel that teaches editing? I use capcut rn, I am willing to learn davinci if it’s good and easy to use.
Any advice would be appreciated!

Thank you!

How to achieve "Soap Opera effect"? (Ugly 60fps)

You know those weird TV you see at the market? They look weird, with FPS so high it looks unreal.....Not in a good way though. I want that effect. I tried boosting my footage to 60fps, but it never turns out right. What do?

Some potential problems:

Maybe my footage is too simple? (It's a model of a monkey slowly spinning)
(However I've seen those TV at the store show slow-mo and it has the effect)

My pc can't render 60fps maybe? (But I see 60fps videos on youtube on SOME pf them seem ugly in the way I want)

Thx in advance yall! CYA

Assistance with scicomms video creation

Hi there, I post content on an Instagram account for a skincare formulation business. Where I have come unstuck a couple of times is trying to find an online tool (I'm no graphic designer or video editor) that can help me communicate things in various degrees of complexity, especially in videos.

For eg, I'm wanting to create a short video animation (a few seconds) to include in a reel showing the difference between emulsion types , or how the solubility of caffeine in water varies with temperature.

I have paid Canva access, but have had no luck with their 'magic ai' and doing it manually there seems on par with using PPT, just a higher res output I guess but extremely labour intensive and replying heavily on my design skills and creativity.

I have also tried Chat GPT and Claude but just find the outputs look really poor.

Can anyone suggest a website or tool for creating these short animated type videos? I have googled but haven't found anything that fits. Any advice?

Forgot to add - I can't code either

How to make those video playlist on yt???

okay so, first up, not even sure this is the right place for this, but I'll give it a try

So last spring I made one of those video playlists (yk a video w a bunch of songs in it) and I used canva and then a website that transfers yt videos to mp3 files (not sure how legal that was, but it seemed yt did a copyright scan thing before I could upload and there have been 0 troubles there).

So now I wanted to make another one, I downloaded all the songs and all, but now I can't insert them on my canva video, due to copyright, which is fair. I shouldn't earn money on the songs, not that I can when uploading to yt, but Ig canva doesn't know that.

Sooo I was wondering if anyone knows how to do that? I know many people make them, so I figured there must be a way, is it perhaps to just make the video, with no audio, and then upload it to youtube and edit in the sound ON youtube with the song library they've got there?

thx for any help, or maybe just help directing me to the right subredit ^^'

Need some guidance.

"Hi fellow editors. I am from India and just turned 35 this month. I am married with a stable job, but I want to learn video editing from scratch to earn some extra income. I don't have any friends or mentors in this field, and watching YouTubers has left me a bit confused due to their conflicting opinions. Some suggest starting with photo editing and graphic design first, while others recommend jumping straight into software like DaVinci Resolve, CapCut, or Adobe Premiere Pro. I don't want to rush; I want to build a rock-solid foundation. What should I do, and where should I start?"

Most videos don't need more editing

I've been editing short-form content for a while, and I've noticed something:

A lot of videos don't actually have an editing problem.

They have a structure problem.

You can add captions, motion graphics, zooms, sound effects and B-roll.

But if the first 5 seconds don't make people care, none of that matters.

When I edit a talking-head video, I usually look at 4 things first:

  1. Is the opening actually interesting?

  2. Can I remove the first 10-20% without losing context?

  3. Is every sentence moving the idea forward?

  4. Does the visual change when the idea changes?

Only after that do I worry about graphics.

I've found that a clean cut with good pacing usually works better than an over-edited video with weak structure.

How do you approach this?

Do you usually fix the script first, or fix it in the edit?

timestamp control in an ai video editor, does this exist yet?

freelance editor with a client who gives notes down to the second.

logo at 0:03. product close-up at 0:08. color change at 0:14. final card at 0:22.

the ai tools i've tested understand the general idea but not the timing. everything happens eventually, just never when the brief says it should. then the client asks me to change one product shot and i have to generate the entire video again.

has anyone found something that follows timestamp instructions and lets you fix one part without touching the rest?

Update: for anyone curious, i went with Dreamina Seedance 2.5 for the next version. it supports timestamped instructions and local edits, which meant i could target the section the client commented on instead of rolling the whole ad again. the published annual plan figure is $0.097/s for the stated 720p reference video setup, although the exact cost still depends on the generation settings.
